Iris's POV:
Odette grinned, her eyes growing droopy, as she played with the blade near my throat, "It all started... many years ago, when my mother, Noelle, met your mother, Juliana."
*** MANY YEARS PRIOR ***
Noelle's POV (some readers didn't understand or skipped authors Note, but this is Odette's Mother. This is a flashback to the past):
"Oh my god, do you see him?" I gushed, nudging my best friend by the shoulder.
Juliana, otherwise known as Juls shrugged her shoulders, uninterested that our alpha's son would be turning 18 today, inheriting the title as a new alpha.
"Don't know, don't care," she said, seeming distracted.
I roll my eyes, standing on my tip toes to see him.
He was saying the pledges of being alpha, his promises to the pack and to the future holding it against us. How he would fulfill every wish and want.
The old alpha stepped down, and as the power left him and came into his son.
His name was Murphy Reed.
And I had fallen in love with him since the day he became my best friend, and when he had saved me from the rogues tearing me apart.
Since he was now 18, he would find his mate, and I was begging from the bottom of my heart to every fiber of my being that I was the one.
As the cheers went wild, Juliana was still busy looking elsewhere, still distracted.
I paid no mind, since my friend never liked Murphy. However, I found it strange that Juliana was this distracted, she never was.
I wonder what she's looking for?
Murphy stepped down from the stage when the pack members started to party, looking for me as I was looking for him. When he spotted me, he grinned, showing off his pearly whites.
"So, I guess you're the alpha now, huh?" I asked, my heart pounding.
He was about to reply, but his smile fell.
His head tilted in the air, eyes suddenly pitched black. Head moving from side to side, until it stopped and looked beyond me.
Please no.
I slowly turned around, and stilled.
Juliana was standing there, eyes widened.
Time seemed to stop between them, almost as if there were only the two of them in this entire world. I became unimportant, and forgotten.
Murphy strides past me, yelling out, 'MINE!' Until he stood right in front of her, and slammed his lips onto hers.
Juls responded back, catching the entire packs attention. They shouted, clapping their hands because their new Luna has arrived.
Murphy had found his mate and it wasn't me.
It never was.
Instead... it was my best friend.
And it always will be.
