When I came to be, I blinked slowly, adjusting to the lights once more. My head throbbing, burning on the top to the bottom.
Then I felt it.
Tiny little hands were softly tugging on my shirt, wanting my attention. My whole body ached, and I refused to even open my eyes. The small hands can go away, I'm in pain.
Another tug causes me to give up and peek one of my eyes open, my attention settled straight ahead of me.
There's no one.
No one but an unconscious Reese who was still chained up, his breathing even. His body slightly bruised, with his arms and hands burnt to red.
My Reese.
One last hard tug to my shirt causes me to drift my tired eyes down, only to see a small little boy staring right up at me.
His innocent and brown chocolate eyes stared up at me urgently, yet curiously.
He looked exactly like the little boy from the picture.
The one Reese missed the most.
Eventually, I gathered enough willpower and asked the little boy, "Are you... Reese's younger brother?" I croaked out, my voice almost gone.
His puffy cheeks blew up, and nodded at me quickly.
My eyes start to widen, "Where ... is your mommy ... and daddy?" I managed to ask out.
He points to the left of me, and I squint my eyes to see two figures in the distance. They were also chained up, attempting to stay awake.
Their skin was filthy, rugged with dirt and mud. Their bones to their skins almost showing due to the lack of food they've consumed.
My heart broke, wanting to reach our and help the people most dear to him.
The little boy made a squeaking sound, the parents automatically snapping their heads up, alerted. Searching for him when their eyes landed on me, and not lastly, Reese.
The middle aged woman let out a little cry, while the man started having tears pricking the edges of his eyes.
I attempted to speak to them, but I was interrupted.
Odette came rolling back in, her hips swaying as the bandages on her body were noticeable. Her head, back, and sides were slightly bleeding through the bandage wraps, but it did enough to heal.
Her heels clipped across the hall, her dungeon keys dangling.
She unlocks the dungeon door, stepping inside before locking it once more.
"Did you two have a nice conversation with each other? I threw him in here earlier to wake you, now I have to wake this other one. Did you know the entire pack is looking for you guys? You should see how pathetic everyone is. How easy it was to steal you guys." she said, rolling her eyes in disgust.
Odette paced herself to where Reese hung, punching him in the abs; hard.
He let out a startled groan, fangs lengthening in warning. A snarl escapes between his lips, as he hissed out, "You fucking... bitch..."
She must have tightened the chains, because Reese couldn't even reach up and harm her. His muscles flexed, trying to end her.
It didn't work.
And it never will.
