I lay on the grass, stretched out in exhaustion. I was worn out, trying to inhale as much air as possible before he would strike again.

However, he didn't.

Instead, he extended a hand toward me, and I looked at him as if he were a madman. He clicked his tongue in annoyance, his mouth forming a frown.

"Are you going to take it? I don't have all day."

I slapped his hand away, growling. "I don't need your help. Especially from the likes of you."

He stared coldly at me, "Just take it. Others will see you whining. You're on the ground, for Christ's sake."

Reluctantly, I take his offer and place my small hands into his slightly larger ones. Automatically, he pulls me up hard, a little too hard.

His strength surprised him and me. He tried to stop me from falling onto him but could not prevail. In the end, my hands landed on his shoulders, his hands still in mid-air to my sides.

We stood in shock, my heart pounding against my ribcage.

Tingles rose from my fingertips, shaking my core. Wasabi was purring softly, enjoying the feeling of our mate near us.

Suddenly, he grabs me by the shoulders and pushes me off him. I stumble back, my head tilted upwards to meet his eyes.

They're closed tightly before opening again, his nostrils flaring.

The band was doing its wonders, working slowly into his mind. His wolf's eyes appeared, turning black before turning back to bluish to green. Both struggle for control over their desires.

Finally, it rested at bluish-green.

Wasabi grew disappointed and wandered deep into my mind, not saying anything but listening for anything more.

He takes a deep breath and stares at me with some emotion, but it disappears quickly. Why is he trying to hide it?

He then clasped his hands together, rasping heavily, "You still need improvement on the training. Your offense was terrible-"

I was about to make a comeback, but his following words surprised me.

"- but your defense is remarkable. You block my hits with ease. With more training, there will be no doubt you'll become a strong warrior one day."

I flushed with warmth, a smile almost reaching my face, but I didn't let his words phase me. I blinked, shrugging at his compliment.

When he saw my expression blank, he turned away, closing his eyes briefly. "Come tomorrow, same time, and don't be late. We have lots of work to do."

He walked away to the other warriors still training, not waiting for my response.

I stood there stunned until Kace and Mela raced towards me out of nowhere. They told me they were training with the other warriors and asked how I hadn't noticed them.

I apologized just as the Beta and Gamma families joined us and congratulated me on training with him. They had watched on the sidelines, which I overlooked.

They were all chatting merrily while my attention was diverted elsewhere.

More specificity, on Odette and him, who was training the warriors as she took a break.

Watching them from the sidelines, I swear I saw them make multiple eye contact.
