After moments of silence, Reese holds me to him as he swims to the shore.
He releases me, and plops me down onto the ground.
It felt like forever before one of us spoke again. It wasn't awkward at all, just calming. We enjoyed the presence of one another, loving each second that passed.
"We should go in, it's getting late," he insisted, brushing some dirt off his pants as he extended a hand for me to take.
I took it without any hesitation.
He pulled me up, smiling gently, as we walked to the pack house.
We took our time walking, creating conversations to get to know one another.
It was bliss.
By the time we reached the pack house steps, our clothes were already starting to dry.
Reese was about to reach the handle of the knob, until I ceased him from doing so. I gripped his arm, pausing him.
He looked at me in question, especially when I had a small frown on my face.
"I..." I paused, licking my lips in nervousness, "I don't want this to end. I hate going behind this door and going back to our own ways. It's... dreadful," I whispered.
Reese turns fully to me, wrapping his arms around me. His head buried into my neck, inhaling my scent, just as I did to him.
"It won't be like this forever, I promise."
I shook my head, tightening my hold on him.
"What if it is forever? Odette is unpredictable, and you- I mean we don't even know what or when she'll strike next. And-"
"Shhhh.. Iris. Calm down and breathe love. We'll take baby steps, just be ready for her next course of action. Her last orders to me were to keep acting cold and make you hate me," He says, caressing my back.
I was silent at that, enjoying the warmth and sparks from our hugs.
"Besides, I plan on making it up to you for all those times I've hurt you, even if it was to protect you. I know you've forgiven me, but I'm still to blame."
I could only nod once more, holding his promises to him.
Daniel, or rather Reese, gives me a peck on the lips causing sparks before releasing me, turning back around and opens the door.
The door creaks open, and he motions me to step in first, as he follows me in after to close the door.
As we enter the pack house, the kitchen light is on. Some giggles and chuckles echo around the room, and as we enter deeper into the house, we're greeted by light.
My jaw drops to who is in front of me.
Kace and Mela.
There was a small desert of chocolate in front of them, with water glasses next to the meal.
I immediately asked, "What are you guys doing down here? It's 12:45am!" I said, checking the clock on the wall.
Kace steps off his chair, eyes solely focused on Reese while Mela came up beside him. Their expressions confused and upset.
"We're having a midnight snack, but the main question is, what are you guys doing here?" Kace asked, arms folded over the other.
"Together too," Mela added in fast.
I opened my mouth to explain, but Reese beats me to it.
"We're fuck buddies."
