Reese froze, not moving.
His features forming in ones of disbelief, "You... what? What do you know?" He demanded, stepping closer and closer towards me, until my back hit the tree.
I had no where else to go.
Shít.
My heart was racing due to the closeness, where our positions laid.
His chest was basically pressed up against mine, the sparks flying haywire. The bond buzzing with life, wanting us to come as one.
We didn't... sadly.
His chest was heaving, "I'll ask you again, what do you know?"
I gulped down the lump in my throat, feeling brave.
"I know that you treat me like an asshole attitude because you want to protect me from, Odette. I know that she has something against you, but for one thing, I don't know what she has against you." I breathed out finally.
He took a step back, and I took this as a cue to continue.
"I know that you care deeply about me, so much that you would go as far as make me try to hate you."
He took a step back again, but I took toward another.
"I know that you care for me, so deeply that you would call it love."
Finally, we were out of the trees shade.
The full moon shined on us, his face showing the first emotions I haven't seen since I first came here. His walls were crumbling down, and it wasn't the cold person I first met with a facade, or The Alpha of the North anymore, it was just two mates.
Us.
Mates that belonged to each other but rejected it for the sake of their own reasons.
His eyes showed everything I needed to see.
Fear. Longing. Sadness. Love.
I tried to take another step forward but he held out his hand, halting me. Telling me not to come any closer, how it was too dangerous to be near me.
Finally, he whispered out, "How did you know?"
My voice went meek, my hand rubbing the back of my neck in shame, "It was wrong of me to do, but the girls had a slumber party in my room, and when evening fell, Odette had been acting strange beforehand, so I followed her to the hall. I saw her enter your office when you opened it for her, and... I spied on you guys."
His nostrils flared up at that, not pleased with me being nosy.
I put my hands up in defense, "Hey, I needed answers okay? Too much weird shit has been happening lately, and I don't like it one bit."
He sighed, his fingers combing through his hair.
"Don't you realize that curiosity killed the cat? If you were caught—"
I cut him off, "But I wasn't," I chirped in.
Reese glared at me but let it go, "I suppose... you want answers now, huh?"
I nodded deeply, causing him to suddenly sit down onto the grass.
"Sit, this will be a long story."
