"Hold the damn phone... he's your what?" Mela whispered harshly.
I take a steady breath, calming my aching heart and a whimpering wolf who couldn't get over the fact that our mate didn't want us.
"He's my mate."
Kace looked furious, "And? Why isn't he up here comforting you? Isn't that a mate's duty? How come he didn't react to the pull right away? He barely looked at you when he first came to our old pack house!"
I was about to answer him, but Mela beat me to it.
"Honey, as much as I love you, hold my hoop earrings. I'm going to beat some ass tonight!" Mela yelled, already disregarding her earrings to me.
The situation was getting out of control and fast.
I stood from the bed, fuming, "No, don't!"
They both looked at me as if I was insane.
I shook my head, "I know, it sounds terrible, but... I want to do this on my own. He can't avoid the bond forever; besides... if he rejects me, he knows one of us will die. He wouldn't dare because he needs me just as much as his pack. He'll realize what he's missing, trust me."
I don't know why I was lying to myself. I was already unstable, as it is. Lying to myself and repeatedly telling what is false makes it feel like the truth.
Kace's chest was still heaving, and his eyes were pitch black.
"Fine, but if he steps out of line, you tell us and we'll beat his ass together, okay?" Kace said, frowning.
Mela jumped in, chirping, "That's right. We're all in this together."
We all smiled before my stomach rumbled loudly, ruining the moment. Mela and Kace started rolling around in laughter while I turned red.
Kace chuckled, linking hands with Mela, "Let's go feed that little monster inside you, yes?"
Mela smiled at me warmly as I followed them out of the room.
The three of us descended the stairs, unintentionally catching the attention of the whole pack. Most stopped chewing while the pups continued giggling and playing with their toys.
They were staring mainly at me. Not because I was their Luna but because I was an alpha of another pack. They didn't know I was their Luna since I was never announced to the pack.
For someone to be seen as an alpha or Luna of their leader, the leader must accept them as their mate first.
However, the Alpha of the North has done none of the above. They will only see me as a special guest for their alpha and an alpha from a poor pack.
When we reached the bottom of the stairs, everyone but my pack members was dead silent.
Talk about awkwardness.
Quickly resuming my position as Alpha, my eyes turned to the ones of my wolf before I growled out, "It's impolite to stare."
His pack members quickly resumed eating and nervously chatting. My pack members, on the other hand, laughed, feeling pride in my actions.
And then it became silent again. This time, all the pack members became quiet.
The bond was humming softly, connecting my soul to his. My skin prickling, shivering from the new presence in the room.
I turned around carefully, my light brown eyes meeting his greenish-blue eyes.
He's here.
