Ryland's POV

"That's the wrong answer, Shane. It's suppose to be 25" I said, leaning to see Shane's paper.

"Well, I fucking hate math so you know what I don't really give a fuck if it's the wrong answer" He stated, looking kind of pissed.

I snatched away his homework and finished it for him, as usual. He smiled, continuing to watch me do all of the work and even make it look realistic to his normal handwriting. I would look at him in the corner of my eye, he always had a smile. It made me happy inside that he was my best friend.

"Listen, You've got to start understanding this concept. High school is just around the corner and I'm pretty sure you're going to need to know this" I said, pointing out equations to him.

"Ugh, whatever. Homework is so stupid like why the fuck would I want to work at home?" He sassed.

I laughed at him, and handed him back his finished work. He stuffed it into his backpack, which was really unorganized, and turned back to me. We sat there on the bed just looking at each other until his fahter came in.

"Ryland, are you going to stay the night or do you want us to drop you off?" He asked.

Shane shot his head towards me and pulled me into him. I laughed as he pleaded me to stay with him for the night. My mother and father don't really mind me staying here since they known Shane for a couple of months now. I gave into him as he squealed in excitement.

"Okay, well there is still some pizza left over if you two get hungry again" He said."Also, try to be quiet this time. Jacob will most likely be up studying and Jerid is asleep in his crib"

"No promise, but we'll try dad" Shane said with a chuckle at the end.

His father smiled and left us to be alone in his room. We exchanged glances between each other before finally smiling and jumping off of the bed. He threw me a pair of his shorts as we ran down the stairs. His parents looked at us like we were crazy but they laughed.

Shane bursted open the backdoor as he then threw off his shirt. He took of his sock and jumped into the pool, making a big splash in the water. I laughed at him as I was putting on his shorts that he had let me borrow. I then jumped in myself, making me giggle in return.

"I'm so glad summer is coming up, then we'll get to spend more time together" Shane said with smile.

"A whole three months just dedicated to each other? I think I can do that for you" I responded to him, making me turn red just a bit.

He splashed water in my face, making me turn my face but that never works anyways. I splashed back at him as we then had a little fight with giggles and laughs blending in with the sounds of the water splashing. He then corned me, putting down his hands on the rails on the pool since we were on the deep end.

He stared at me with innocent eyes. He looked so pure, like there was nothing wrong with him. For some odd reason, my heart started to race. He then smiled at me, sending my heart to skip a beat. He then laughed and got out of the water. I sighed, and followed his actions.

His mother had left us some towels on the lounge chairs, so that we didn't have to come in all wet inside the house. I instantly wrapped myself in the towel since I was cold. Shane then wrapped the towed around him, and motioned his head to follow him.

He opened up the gate of the backyard, and made his way towards the front yard. He removed the towed around him, and put it around his neck. I followed his same exact actions as I then watched him climb up his tall tree. I climbed up myself before sitting down on the strong branch next to him.

"This is literally the tallest freaking tree in the whole neighborhood" I said, making him chuckle.

"Maybe, but I like to think there's a bigger one out there. Just waiting for someone to climb it, and give it company" He said.

"Well, I really like being here with you. Along with giving this tree a bit of company" I said, scooting just a bit closer to him.

He looked at me before put his arm around my waist to secure me. I didn't want this moments to end at all. I knew we were going to have to climb down this tree, and head off to bed. I loved the way our feet dangled in the air, the way he was holding me, his presence, everything was just perfect.

"Can you promise me something, Shane?" I asked him, making him raise his eyebrow.

"Sure, ask away" He responded.

"Promise me that, we won't change. That we will always be here for each other no matter what..." I spoke.

"Of course, Ry. I'll always be here for you, and I will never change. You're going to always be my best friend" He said, turning so that his legs were on each side of the branch.

He pulled me closer to him and then letting me hug him. I held onto him tightly, letting him know to hold me tighter too as he then did. We stayed there for a good couple of more minutes just in each others arms. He pulled away from me as then looked me in the eyes.

"I love you Ry" He said, before his eyes widened and looked with regret. "As a friend! Sorry, I should have said that more clear"

He then laughed just a bit. I chuckled in response so it wouldn't look like I was hurt by his words at the end. I smiled at him, before we finally climbed down the tree together. We went inside the house, and cleaned ourselves up for bed. We laid down on the bed as he turned off the light, and drifted off to sleep.

"I love you Shane. Just not in the same way you love me"
