Ryland's POV

Shane had been pleading me all week to hang out with him, as I hadn't talked to him after my outbreak the other day. When I wouldn't respond to him, he would pout and wait for me out the door or just give up and go over to Blake's house. Today, as expected, was outside my door pleading me to come out of the room.

I sighed, knowing he would continue this until I opened the door. I threw on some new clothes and fixed my hair before opening the door quickly. He fell back on his back as he must have been leaning back on the door. I smiled as he then sprang up and smiled at me, while then pulling me into a hug.

"Can we do something together? Like maybe we could go see a m-"

"I'll pick what we do, not you." I said, walking past him and grabbing a lunch box from one of the cabinets. "Now, come help me make some sandwiches."

Shane smiled and nodded, quickly coming over to assist me. He made the both of our sandwiches, and I packed some snacks for us to share along with some drinks. We packed it all in the big lunch box, and we exited the house. I locked up the apartment, and we walked down the stairs to the car.

I started it up, and I drove off. Shane didn't pay much attention to anything else other than what was outside the window. His phone went off multiple times as he didn't even pay attention to that either. He was more captivated on what was going on right now than anything else. I was grateful about that because maybe then, he'd start looking at me more.

"I'm guessing we are going on a picnic?" he asked, as I looked over at him and just nodded. "Are we going to have it at a park or-"

"I don't think you'll remember much about it, but it's where one of most happiest moments happened at." I explained, as he looked at me with more curiosity in his eyes.

"Explain happiest moments." He said, as i just shook my head. "Why won't you tell me? Don't you want me to remember?"

"I do, Shane. I really do, but I don't think you would want to hear it." I tried to explain to him but he started to get upset. "Besides, it'd hurt me to explain it because I know you wouldn't remember."

"How would you know what I want to hear?! It hurts me that you won't even tell me one of the supposedly happiest days of my life!" He shouted out, as I stayed calm since I didn't want us to outbreak into a fight.

"Let's just see if there is even a speck of memory left in from that night when we get there." I said, as Shane just sighed and looked back out the window.

I felt bad for not explaining that night to him, but I just wanted to see if maybe there was something left from his old memory. I drove quickly to the hill that was soon in sight. I smiled as we pulled into the parking lot as Shane didn't have facial expressions on his face. He got out the car and I grabbed the lunch box, and we walked up the hill together.

No one usually came on Mondays since everyone was either at work or at school, but I had taken a few days off to get my mind back together. He sat down and looked down at the ground below him and he then smiled, grabbing a half of the sandwich and ate it. I watched him as he leaned back and stared up at the clouds.

We stayed like this for a while, we ate and just stared up at the clouds. We were there for an hour, and Shane hadn't opened his mouth yet. He then brought his knee up to his chest and wrapped his arms around the knee and pulled himself up. He then sat with his legs crossed, and he then looked over at me.

"Can you explain it to me now?" He asked with his eyes fully on me. "Please, how can you expect to me to remember if you don't tell me anything?"

He had a point, he couldn't remember anything without anything to start with. I looked down and then back up at Shane, he was biting down on his lip and I just sighed. I turned over to him and crossed my legs just like he did. He smiled and he put his head in his hands and looked at me attentively.

"It was our anniversary night, we had been together for three years then." I started, as Shane looked confused already. "You look me out a really elegant restaurant and once we were done eating, we came here. My favorite part were the flowers, of course, and I made you a flower crown. I pronounced that you were the king of my heart."

I looked over and Shane looked as if he didn't know what to say or what to do for that matter. I sighed, taking his hand into my hand. I walked him down the hill and I walked into the forest of flowers. I saw the pond that laid in the center and I stood there next to Shane.

"You then told me to dance with you and you played the most classical music I've ever heard. I still remember how you hummed the song into my ear." I said, looking down at my shoes before then laughing. "You rolled up your jeans and took off your shoes along with your socks. You then splashed me with water and I kicked water back at you. You then picked me up and cradled me into your arms, holding me so tight as if you didn't want to let me go and spun me around."

"You told me there was no explanation for love, and we went back to dryer land and we let the music take up our ears. Then you ask me to promise you something that....that I didn't keep." I explained, as Shane's eyes looked at with such urge.

"What couldn't you promise me?" He asked softly as i gulped and turned to him slowly.

"You told me to never let you forget this day...Shane, I'm so sorry...." I exclaimed, as I wiped away a tear as Shane slowly came up to me. "Though, we did make broken promises that night. You promise you would never forget how much I loved you...little did we know, right?"

"Ryland.....I-I'm so sorry. I wish this didn't happen." He spoke softly, wiping away my tears. "I wish I loved you the same way you love me."

"You figured it out once, you can do it again." I stated, before Shane took my hand into his and we walked back to the car.

We got into the car and I started it up and Shane's hand was still in mine. We drove for a while until I came to see a familiar shop that Shane and I went to as kids to get milkshakes. I parked suddenly into the lot and Shane had a questioning face. I held his hand all the way inside and I order us both simple chocolate milkshakes.

"Ryland...I wanna try and mayb-"

Was all he said until he walked in with some of his friends. Shane turned around and Blake came running up to him. I saw how Shane's eyes looked at him as Blake pulled him into the biggest hug ever and swung him around. I don't know what hurt more, the fact that Shane was in Blake's arms or the fact that that was the same look Shane use to give to me.

It's funny how life works, isn't it?
