chapter five

Ryland's POV 

{Sophomore Year}

I Shane - 15 I Ryland - 15 I

I ended up doing it.

They were finally together.

And holy shit did i fucking hate them together.

They walked the halls with each others hand in hand. I envied how they looked together, and how happy they were. His eyes were always on her and his hands made sure she was still around. Everyone loved them, and then there was me. The only boy that was in love with Shane.

"Ryland, you zoned out again" Shane's said as he snapped his fingers in front of my face. 

I shook my head and blinked a few times before turning my head to Shane. He had a concerned look plastered on him and I weakly smiled at him. He sighed in response, knowing that I was fine and he didn't have to worry about me. I looked down to see my page was full of notes and I was confused now.

"I wrote them for you so it looked like you actually did something today" Shane said in my ear, smiling just a bit.

"Thanks."

The bell rang through the classroom, and I bolted up from my chair. I gathered my things fast and ran out the classroom. Joey, as usual, was waiting for me by my locker and he smiled as he saw me. I threw my stuff into my locker as Joey's friend, Daniel came to meet up with us. 

"Ryland, we're going to go down to the lake to swim down there." Daniel said. "Wanna come?" 

"And Lisa, Lily, and Shane are coming too" Joey informed me, winking at the last name he announced. 

"Actually, I have tons of homework today and I really need to catch up on all my notes in my classes" I said, trying to get out of the activity that involved him. 

"Nonsense, you just threw everything in your locker" A voice said behind me. I turned to see the green-eyed, auburn haired boy standing there in front of me. 

"I also helped you with your notes, so you should be just fine." He included, crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow. 

I ended up giving into them and they directed me to Daniel's car. We all got in and Shane sat directly next to me. I watched as a notification pop up on his phone as he ignored it and faced back at me. I squinted my eyes at him as he then laughed, and shook his head. 

Daniel drove for what seemed like hours but it was minutes, he just drives way too slow. We pulled into the grassy area and exited the car. Lisa and Lily came running out of their car to meet with us. I swear I felt Lisa eye me up and down, but I just ignored it. 

"Well, let's strip down and we'll go jump in" Joey said, jokingly but making everyone chuckle at him. 

We all stared at each other before Shane took of his shirt. I tried not to stare at him as I gulped hard into my throat. Everyone then got more comfortable and started to take off articles of their clothing. I slowly did too, and either everyone was just either in their clothing that covers their private parts.

"Alright, come on you wimps. Let's swim!" Daniel yelled out as he started to run for the lake. 

Everyone laughed as everyone started to run behind him except for Shane and I. He saw I was a bit uncomfortable as I've never liked to be exposed like this in front of others I barely knew. He leaned into my ear and whispered that everything was going to be okay. I nodded and he walked me down to the lake.

I got in as Shane followed me. We walked farther into the lake, making the water go up to our stomachs.Everyone was splashing around in the water as Shane stayed with me, trying to make me more comfortable. I stood there and played with water and then I felt a splash splatter on me. 

I gasped and I turned to see Shane laughing, and I then pushed him into the water. He fell back and he went fully down into the water. He came back up and he wiped the water off of his eyes along with pushing his wet hair back. I stopped laughing to admire his beauty but he then started to smirk. 

He went back under the water and I tried to look around for him but the water was a bit dark since we were in the shade. I then felt myself get lifted off of the soft surface and I felt hands wrap around my legs. I noticed it was Shane as he threw me over his shoulder then threw me into the water. 

I hit the water and my body hit the soft surface at the bottom. I came back and I shook my head to get water out of my hair. I got my vision back and Shane winked at me. I scoffed at him as he mimicked me and I just shook my head at him.

"Hey! You two! Stop playing with each other and come over here!" Joey yelled out as the other laughed.

We finally dried off as the day was turning into night. I put my clothes back on and Shane was waiting in the backseat for me. I got in as I saw Joey passed out in the passenger seat. Daniel started the car up and started to drive us all home. 

"Hey, wanna stay at my house tonight?" Shane offered, biting his bottom lip.

"Uh, sure. I'll just text my parents really quick." I said as Shane nodded.

I told my parents as they were okay with it. I didn't need to go home to get clothes because I have clothes at Shane's house already for nights like these. Daniel dropped us off first, and we said our goodbyes. Shane walked me inside his house as his parents then greeted me. We went up to his room, Shane closing the door behind me. 

"I think I'm gonna take a shower..." Shane said, setting his backpack down on the bed. "Would you like to join me?"

"What?" I gasped, blinking a few times to make sure this was real life. 

"Do you want to join me in the shower? I mean, we're both boys and known each other for a while. It's not like anything is going to happen ya know?" Shane explained, raising an eyebrow. "Besides, we'll be saving water."

We both laughed as I timidly nodded. Shane smiled as he motioned his hand telling me to follow him in the bathroom. He started the shower and the water started to run. Shane undressed first and got in as I took my time but I also needed to process what the hell was happening. I finally then got in, and Shane was rinsing his hair out as the water fell upon the top of his head and down his body.

He saw me and smiled as he switched places with me. I somehow contained myself during the whole 15 minutes in there. We dried off and got into more comfortable clothes to sleep in. We laid down on his bed as Shane turned off the lamp. I felt Shane shuffle into the covers until I felt an arm wrap around my waist.

I let out a sigh and I shuffled closer to him. I heard him let out a little soft giggle as he tightened his arm around me. I wrapped my arm around his stomach as I couldn't stop smiling. I buried my head into his chest as I started to drift off into a wonderful sleep.
