Ryland's POV
{Freshman Year}
Shane - 15 I Ryland - 15
Weeks have passed, and yet he is still so blind. He continues to fall for Elle while I'm just watching him fall more and more in love with someone else that isn't me. Although, I act like I'm not bothered by it one bit.
He's also made some other friends too. I don't know them all too well personally, but I already hate them. They always want Shane to hang out with them, and Shane always leaves me. He says "he'll make it up to me" but never does.
"Hey Ry, what's number 4?" Joey said, leaning over just a bit to look at my paper.
"We have 23 pairs of chromosomes, meaning we have 46 in all" I explained, making him nod in response.
Joey, the one other human friend I have other than Shane. His schedule was changed earlier this year, so he is now in most of my classes. Usually if Shane's busy, I'll go over to Joey's and just hang out with him and his little brother.
"What are you thinking about?" He asked, running a hand through his hair. I merely shook my head but his eyes showed that he really wanted to know.
"Have you ever like - love someone but all their attention is on someone else?" I whispered to him. Joey raised an eyebrow at me and shook his head.
"Uh, not really. If that person likes you back then their attention would be on you, right?" He said. I nodded in response as he put a hand on my back to comfort me.
"But why ask that? Who's the lucky girl? or guy...I don't judge" He joked with a light smile.
"It's nobody really. It's just some stupid high school crush" I said with a smirk on my lips.
"Nonsense! Now, tell me." He urged me. "And hey, maybe I could even help you out with them and you and them could have a happy ending."
"That's only in fairy tales Joey" I said, rolling my eyes. "Their eyes would never even dare look upon me."
The school bell then rang inside the classroom, and all the kids bolted up out of their seats. Joey and I calmly walked out and walked to our lockers. I empty out my backpack, and closed it back up again.
"Do you want to come over to hang?" Joey asked. "My brother will be staying at his friend's today and we won't be bothered all too much."
"Uh, yeah su-" I was saying before being interrupted.
I turned to see her perfectly straight brown hair bounce as she ran, and her smile glowed. She stopped right in front of me still with a smile plastered on her face. I mentally rolled my eyes at her but I still had to be nice with my tone.
"Hey Elle, what do you need?" I said, trying to sound nice.
"I need you to slip this into Shane's locker for me" She said with a little smile on her face. "It's a cute little way to ask him to meet me at our little meet stop since he stays after school today."
Shane always stays after school on Thursdays because of his basketball practice, and then he'll come straight to his locker. I smiled at her and nodded as she smiled back. Elle walked back to her friends and I went to Shane's locker which was a couple down from mine.
I slipped in the little note through the locker cracks, and Elle watched me and seemed satisfied at the end. She flashed me one last smile before leaving with her friends out the school doors. I made sure they had all left before finally letting out a sigh.
I then looked at Shane's locker and the jealousy finally hit me. I instantly put in his combination and it opened. I took out the little note and shut his locker, locking it afterwards. I then ripped the note into several pieces, and then throwing it into the trash once I was done.
"I would ask you why the hell you just did that, but I'm scared you'll do the same thing to me as you did to that piece of paper." Joey said.

The Next Day
"That literally doesn't even make sense, how the hell do I have a 75 in English if I literally speak the language?" Joey said confusingly. I laugh at his words as he continued to be extremely confused.
"It's more than just the language, Joe" I said with a slight chuckle in between.
He chuckled along with me, but that was interrupted when I saw Elle turned the corner walking at a pretty fast pace. I was confused until I saw Shane running behind her. They were a little bit further down the hall when he grabbed her arm.
"Let me go. You're just like all the other boys" Elle said, trying to yank her arm away from Shane.
"Elle please, there was nothing in my locker when I checked it. If there was I would have been there I swear" Shane said, raising his voice just a bit.
"Oh my god, stop lying!" Elle finally yelled out as she finally got her arm out of his grip. "I waited for you for three hours and you never showed up! Do you know how that feels?! No, you don't because every girl here loves you!"
It was all too true. No one would dare pass up a chance with Shane. It was just that Shane wasn't the type of guy to fall for just any girl. He just ignored the girls and just focused on his friends. He still hasn't had a girlfriend since the seventh grade as I can remember.
"And to think, I was one of those girls..." Elle said, making her head fall down.
"W-What? What do you mean by that?" Shane asked, bringing his hand into her hand. "Do you love m-me?"
"I don't know about it anymore, Shane" She said softly, before pushing his hand away. "Just leave me alone from now on..."
She pushed her hair back and walked away. Shane stood there for a second before turning around and letting his eyes meet mine. I ran over to him and engulfed him into a hug. His arms wrapped around me and his head fell onto my shoulder.
I heard him let quiet sobs out and I couldn't help but let a rush of guilt come over me. I felt extremely horrible that I let jealousy take over me like that. He pulled away from me and there was still tears in his eyes. I wiped them away before he spoke.
"I love her, Ry. I love her so much." Shane whispered.
I need to fix this.
I need to stop being jealous.
He deserves to be happy.
Not here in tears and sadness.
