chapter six

Ryland's POV

{Sophomore Year}

I Shane - 15 I Ryland - 15 I

"Come on Ry, you have to go." Shane urged, fixing his hair in the mirror. "That's why it's called a double date not a date plus one." 

"Technically, this is your fault since your the one who asked her if she would be my date." I said, rolling my eyes. 

"Listen, sassy pants. You two have been talking for weeks since we swam at the lake." Shane said, crossing his arms. "And you two are literally getting closer as the days pass."

"Just because we talk a lot doesn't mean we like each other." I sassed. "I don't even like her, Shane. Therefore, I'm not going on the double date."

The doorbell that rang, and Shane turned his head towards the door. He turned back to me and smirked, knowing that it was Elle and my "date". I groaned as I threw myself onto the bed with my arms spread out against it. I then heard faint giggles downstairs as I heard them coming closer.

I turned my head to see Shane's arm around Elle's waist and my date right beside them. Shane tilted his head towards her, telling me to greet myself to her. I smiled as I got up off of the bed and came closer to her. She grew a smile on her face as I pulled her in for a hug.

"Hey Lisa, what's up" I said, pulling away from the hug. 

"Nothing really, how about you?" She said softly as she fiddled with her charm bracelet that was on her wrist. 

"Fine, but honestly I'm starving." I said, earning chuckles from everyone.

"Well, we could go to the little shop down the street and then head on to the movies afterwards." Shane offered.

"Sounds like a plan."

We walked down the stairs and walked out the front door. Shane's father was hesitate, but ended up giving him the keys to his car. Lisa and I got into the backseat as Elle joined Shane in the front seat. We all buckled up as Shane started to pull out the driveway and head to the stop.

(pretty sure this isn't legal but fuck it)

Once we arrived, we parked the car and started to exit. I got out first as I noticed Lisa was exiting out of my door. I extended my hand out as she happily latched onto it, and got out of the car. I closed the door behind her, and Shane gave me a thumbs up for my 'great' actions. 

If only he knew.

We entered the cute little shop as I smelt the wonderful aroma that filled the room. I heard Shane ask Elle what she wanted as I did the same for Lisa. I nodded at her choice and I went to go wait in line with Shane. I checked my pockets for my wallet as I noticed it wasn't in any of them.

"Um...Shane. I think I might have left my wa-"I said before he handed me a twenty dollar bill as I kindly took it. 

"Next time, I'm not covering for you." He said with a chuckle in between.

Once Shane was ordering, I went up and placed both orders that I had. I filled both cups with water, as I was asked to, and waited to get our food with Shane. Shane kept making funny faces at me and I returned them all back to me. He then poked me in the stomach as I poked him the side of his stomach, making him squeal out. 

"You two are honestly so cute. I low-key ship it." The waitress said, as she handed us both of the orders of food. 

She then casually walked back to her work station with a smile on her face. I felt my cheeks get hot and my heart skipped a beat. I turned to see that Shane's face was also red but he just smiled at me. We walked back to our table and sat down. We all started to eat and we talked for a full hour, and Lisa wasn't the bad to be honest.

She was kind of cute. Her laugh was adorable and her voice was so innocent. Her look was very hipster and casual but it was still beautiful on her. Her smile was bright and her eyes glowed when she was happy. I was amazed by her beauty, but I was more amazed with the boy in front of me and his beauty.

His eyes darted to me as we stare at each for moment. He licked his lips before looking back at his girlfriend, and smiling at her. I knew he was happy, and I didn't want to be the one that would ruin that. I knew that one day I would have to move on, and just let him go. Yet, deep down I still wanted to believe that one day he'd look at me in the way he looks at Elle.

We finished up and headed to the movies that was about 10 minutes away. Of course, the girls wanted to watch the new movie called Wonder. (GOOD MOVIE BTW) Shane had slipped in another ten bucks into my back pocket to pay for our tickets. I got Lisa a box of candy as we had already ate so there was no point in popcorn and all that other stuff.

Lisa laid her head down on my shoulder and I actually held her hand throughout the movie. I felt her shiver as I removed my hand and took off my jacket and put it over her. She smiled at me and I smiled back at her. I threw my hand over her waist as she shifted her head closer to me. Lisa then grabbed my hand and placed it in her hand.
