a/n: alright, i know i've already made a chapter two for this story but as you can see i've deleted it. i didn't really like how i made a big jump into a couple of years later after chapter one. but also i kind of forgot where i was going with it since it has been a while but im just making it a bit different so that the title will match up to the story. also, i changed my username to something more original and okayshyland was just too basic to me honestly.
Ryland's POV
Couple of months later....
-Freshman Year-
Ryland-14
Shane-14
"Are you kidding me? You made the team and I didn't?" I exclaimed, looking down at the paper in my hands.
"I don't get it, I'm not even the slightest of good at basketball" Shane said as he ran his fingers through his hair, pushing it back a little.
"Oh whatever, you did so good. I thought I did too though..." I said.
"Maybe it's because you're just too short" He joked, shaking my hair a bit and laughing.
I rolled my eyes and chuckled as I opened my gym locker. Shane took off his jersey along with his shorts. I darted my eyes to my locker, not wanting him to catch me staring at him. Once he changed, he poured some skittles into my hands as we then threw them all in our mouth at once.
It's been our thing to do that with each other ever since the beginning of the summer. We walked out the school doors, and we walked to our little spot that we had claimed together. We went through the park and into the forest to the hidden river. Shane dragged over a huge wooden raft that we built together.
He grabbed my hand and helped me on it since I either fall off or get scared. He got on himself and handed me a paddle. We paddled out into the river and let the raft flow on its own. Shane then pulled me closer to him, letting me wrap my hands around him also.
The way he held me so tightly made me feel so loved by him. I knew he probably wasn't even thinking of me the same way I thought of him but he was good at acting like it. His eyes seemed to be interested in what was in front of us while mine were interested in him, and it stayed like that for hours.
"Do you wanna come stay over at my house tonight?" He asked, paddling back to where we came in.
"Sure, but we are getting milkshakes first" I said, making him laugh in response.
We dragged the raft back to the ground and made our way out of the forest. We walked to the little shop that Shane and I went to every Saturday when it was summer. The owner, Jacob already knew us all too well. The bell rang as we entered through the door, and Jacob saw us and immediately got to making our drinks.
"Here you two go" He said, handing me a strawberry shake and shane the chocolate shake.
Shane handed him the 5 dollars to pay for our drinks and Jake handed us our straws. We walked out the door and were put to a stop when someone bumped into Shane, sending his drink to splatter all over him. I was about to laugh but I saw it was a girl who bumped into Shane.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't see where I was goin-She said quickly, taking off her jacket to help dry Shane's shirt before he interrupted her.
"It's fine honestly. I was heading home anyways" He said, putting his hands on hers to stop her motions.
"Well, I should buy another shake shouldn't I?" She said, with a little smile on her face and Shane just smiled along with her.
Jake knew what Shane already wanted so he went to prepare it while Shane and this girl stared at each other. I couldn't bare to watch them, it made me want to vomit right there in front of them. I took another sip of my drink, trying not to cause any attention to myself.
"I'm Elle, you?" She said happily.
(back at it again with these fictional characters)
"That's a really cute name, I'm Shane" He said with a huge smile on his face.
I get it she's pretty but fuck why couldn't he look at me with those eyes that he has with her. I couldn't even act like it bothered me because he didn't know how I felt. His eyes then finally landed on me as he then made his way over to me, Elle followed.
"This is my friend Ryland."He introduced, pointing at me. "Ryland, this is Elle."
'Friend'
The one word I hate coming from him.
"Nice to meet you Ryland" Elle cheered, extending her hand to shake my hand.
"Same for you Elle" I said, sending her the most fake smile I could have possibly have gave her.
"Elle, are you new here around here? I've never seen you here" Shane asked.
"Actually yeah, I moved her just the other day from North Carolina. I don't know anyone here" She answered him.
"Well, we can be your friends if you want." Shane said. "Here's my phone number if you want to hang out anytime"
He grabbed a napkin from one of the tables and a pen from the front counter. He then handed it to her as she gave him a smile. The shake had finally finished being done and Elle paid for it. She handed him the drink along with a kiss on the cheek. She waved him a goodbye and exited the shop.
God, how I hated her so much already and I barely knew her.

a/n: eh, kind of boring but it will get better in a couple of chapters.
