Lexi's POV
I woke up to the sun glowing warmly through the window. I noticed that Sammy wasn't in her bed. Recently she's been spending a lot of time with Jc. I'm happy for her that she's happy, and not in that relationship with Shawn. He wasn't a good influence on her...
I sat up, seeing the pastel orange and pink sunrise outside. After checking the time and seeing that it was just after seven, I grabbed my phone and slid into one of Kian's sweatshirts that was too big on me and started to head downstairs. I silently entered the passcode on the patio, and creeping outside. I walked down the stairs, feeling the cool wood under my bare feet. The watercolor leaves of fall scattered the grass, as my feet carefully carried me to Kian's grave. I sat down, almost instantly feeling a weight off my shoulders.
"I miss you." I whispered. I took out my phone and going to my sketchbook app. I wanted to do a drawing inspired by Kian.
"Lexi..." I heard Devin's familiar's voice behind me. I turned around.
"Hi." I smiled. I locked my phone and shoved it in the sweatshirt pocket. I stood up, wrapping my arms around Devin's tall figure as he walked over.
"Did you just wake up?" I asked.
"Yeah, and I didn't know where you were." He said.
"Now you know." I sarcastically said with a smile. He leaned down, planting a kiss on my forehead.
"What are we gonna do after this?" I questioned. I want to be with him, but I don't know what we're gonna do.
"Why don't we get an apartment?" He suggested.
"Just us?" I asked.
"Yes, if that's what you want." He smiled.
"I would love that." I said, going on my tiptoes to kiss him.
"Good." He whispered into the kiss. I pulled away.
"But I don't have any of my stuff." I thought out loud.
"Then we'll get it." He simply stated, as we started to walk back to the house, hand in hand.
"When?" I asked.
"Now. We'll have an adventure." He smirked. I laughed as we walked up the stairs and into the house.
"I gotta go get dressed." I said, letting go of his hand and briskly going upstairs. I found my Adidas pants. (you know, the ones with the white stripes down the side.) and a lilac t-shirt. I slipped on my white vans and I put my hair into a bun.
"Lexiiiiiiii." I heard from the downstairs.
"I'm coming!" I laughed when I saw Devin impatiently leaning against the door. He perked up when he saw me come down the stairs.
"Finally." He muttered.
"Shut up." I said under my breath.
"Where are you guys going?" Ethan asked, walking downstairs from his room.
"Just out to town, we'll be back in a while." Devin answered. I smiled at Ethan. His not-so-tough demeanor showing in his eyes. He smiled back.
"Alright, have fun." He said, walking away. We left the house, getting into Devin's car.
"You're gonna need to tell me where to go." He said, turning on the car.
"Just let me drive then." I suggested.
"Fine." He said, opening his door as we switched seats.
We drove through small towns and on highways until we arrived on the familiar street that I grew up on. I sighed, slowing down in front of a tan house.
"This is it." I nodded. I noticed my twenty year-old brother Haiden's car in the driveway, but my mom or dad's cars nowhere in sight.
"I'll come with you." Devin immediately said as we unbuckled our seatbelts. I nervously approached the front door, Devin following behind me. I put my hand on the doorknob, as Haiden usually forgot to lock the door. I twisted it, as it turned in my hand. I pushed the door open.
"Haiden?" I called, my breathing hitched. I heard footsteps.
"Lex..." I saw my brother standing at the top of the staircase. I smiled. He rushed down the stairs, engulfing me in a hug, my arms tightly wrapped around him.
"I can't believe you're here, oh my god." He said, letting me go. Haiden and I were always so close, and he was so protective of me, even though he's only a year older than me.
"Um, this is Devin, it's a really, really long story, I promise I'll explain someday though. Devin, this is my brother Haiden." I explained.
"Nice to meet you, Devin." Haiden said, giving Devin one of those bro hugs.
"I came to get some of my stuff." I said, walking up the stairs with Devin.
"Okay. Just holler if you need me." Haiden said, letting us go upstairs as he went into the kitchen. I walked down the hallway to the white wooden double doors, my room that I haven't been in for almost a month, awaiting inside. I turned the knob and walked inside, Devin behind me. I observed everything, that was exactly how I'd left it that morning when I thought I would just be going to the orientation for the 'Month' and then be coming home. My laptop sat on my desk, my bed unmade, and my closet door open.
"Well, let's get packing." Devin said smiling. I smiled back, crouching down to see under my bed and finding my suitcase, and two large tote bags.
"I'll get clothes if you could get other things I tell you." I told him, unzipping the suitcase on the middle of the floor.
"Okay." He said.
"First, my laptop and it's charger." I said, as I walked into my closet, grabbing as many clothes that I wanted as I could carry. We packed until most of my closet was empty, and my desk bare.
"I think we're done." I sighed. I collapsed onto my bed. I felt something under my back and sat up, surprised to see a tan colored paper with flowy cursive handwriting covering it. I instantaneously recognized it as my mother's writing. I picked it up as Devin sat next to me. I started to read the letter.
Dear Lexi,
I don't know when you'll be reading this, whether it be in a week, months, or even years, but I hope you are okay. I just want the best for you, and that's why I'm writing this to you. Today is September 2nd, and although it's only two days into the Month, we've run into issues. We're being relocated today to an undisclosed location that I can't share- even with you, my own daughter. It's for your safety and ours.
Haiden chose to stay, so that if you come back you would still have him. I know you probably won't forgive us but I get it. I'm sorry.
Sincerely, Mom
I put down the letter in my lap.
"They left." I said in shock and confusion.
"But your brother didn't go?" Devin asked.
"No... that's so weird." I said, getting off my bed, putting the note in one of the bags full of my art supplies.
"I'm sorry babe." He said, standing up too, putting his hands on my waist, and kissing me gently.
"Let's just go." I said, forcing myself to smile.
