Shawn's POV
8th grade year
We snuck into the abandoned insane asylum. Sam and Corey were in the front and I was in the back with Jamie and Garret. We all stopped when we heard moving down the hall.
"I think we should set up camp here" Garret said to Corey
"Sounds good" Corey said. Sam walked over to me and I put my arm around her.
"I'm scared and cold, Mendes" Sam said to me while I held her closer to me
"You'll be fine, Sammy" I said rubbing her arm
"Sam let's do a little searching around" Corey said. Corey is nice and all but I just don't want him around Sam.
"I don't want to. I'm scared" She said taking her backpack off. I took mine off also.
"Fine suit yourself. Jamie let's go" he said and Jamie got up and went with him. Garret just laughed.
"give me your sleeping bag" Sam said and I gave it to her knowing that she was going to combined hers and mine together.
"Sam, can I have one of those protein bars. I need some food right about now" Garret said and she laughed throwing one at him.
"I don't know why I agreed to this, Shawn" Sam said to me
"We don't have much time left with you" I said shivering at the thought that she was leaving
"I really just want to go back to your place, Shawn" She said getting in the sleeping bag. Then we heard a scream coming down the hall Jamie and Corey went down.
"We just got here! What's going on?" I heard Jenny come up behind us with her boyfriend Keith.
"I don't know" Sam said coming over to me out of fear.
"COREY! JAMIE!" Garret yelled just then Jamie came running down the hall crying.
"Where is Corey?" I asked getting up. Don't get me wrong the kid annoys me when it comes to Sam. But he is my guy best friend. I tell him everything. I tell him more stuff than I tell Sam.
"He's dead! There are people coming! We need to leave!" She said in tears.
"He can't just be dead" I said
"They shot him, Mendes. Now lets go" Jamie said. I looked back to see Sam with a freaked out face.
"Shawn, we need to go" Garret said while we saw a guy walking down the hall towards us. Sam started to roll the sleeping bags.
"forget the sleeping bags, Sam" Jamie yelled at her and we all looked at Jamie who started to run out the way we came in. Sam grabbed her bag and mine and looked at me.
"Shawn what are we waiting for them to get closer?" Garret asked me. I looked down the hall at more men coming down the hall. I grabbed Sam's hand and looked at her.
"Keep up with me" I said as I let her hand go and we both started to run. I started to hear gun shots. Not looking back I kept running.
"SHAWN HELP!" I heard Garret say. Jenny and her boyfriend were ahead of Sam and us. Sam still was running. I looked back to see the guys with Garret. Starting to stab him
"SHAWN PLEASE HELP ME!" Garret yelled but I started to run
"SHAWNNNNNNNN"
"Shawn" I heard Sam say. I woke up to see Sam shaking me.
"What?" I asked
"You are sweating so freaking much! You were moving around a lot. Are you okay?" She said looking at me
"What time is it?" I asked
"5 am" She said. I got up from me bed
"What's wrong, Mendes?" She asked me
"Bad dream" I said going into the bathroom and closing the door.
Sam's POV
I went down to the kitchen wondering what Shawn was dreaming about. I wasn't even paying attention to where I was going I ran right into JC and we both fell to the ground. He spilled his orange juice all over me but I just started to laugh.
"I'm sorry, JC" I said laughing and he got up. He helped me up and then looked me up and down laughing.
"It's fine. I should be saying sorry" He said biting his lip
"I should get changed I guess" I said backing up and running right into the wall.
"You okay?" he said laughing
"Um ya" I said turning around going up to Shawn's room. I still heard him in the bathroom. I grabbed one of his hoodies. I knocked on the bathroom door.
"Ya?" I heard Shawn yell
"I'm going on a walk" I said and instantly he opened the bathroom door reveling his toned abs and the loose towel around his waist.
"Let me get dressed I'll go with" He said
"I think I'm just going to go by myself. I just want time to think" I said
"Are you sure, Sam?" He asked me
"Ugh I don't really know....I just have a lot of stuff on my mind" I said
"You can spill to me, Sam" he said grabbing my hand
"Lets go have a picnic" he said
"Sure" I said
"I'll be down in a couple" He said
We were in the grocery shop picking stuff out for the lunch. We were picking a sandwich out.
"How bout this one, Mendes?" I said laughing
"That isn't what we are looking for, Sam" He said laughing while I held up a bottle of champagne.
"You totally can't get that either" he said
"why?" I said laughing
"Age, hun" He said looking at the sandwiches.
"I still have a fake idea. I update it. You don't?" I asked
"I don't drink" He said
"When we were in middle school we did" I said looking at him
"I don't anymore" he said
"Why?" I asked
"That's a story for another time" he said rolling his eyes
"Tell me, Mendes" I said nudging him
"When you left, Sam. I went off the rail. The more you didn't talk to me the more I drank. And when I was drunk I was an ass. One night I came home drunk and at the time I was with Jenny and I regretted it. I knew she was cheating on me and I caught it but I was drunk. So I punched a girl....so I don't drink" He said like it was nothing.
"Shawn!" I said
"Sam, that was freshman year. I know, I can't forgive myself but I can't do anything about it. It is what it is" He said
"But Shawn-" I said
"Samantha!?" I heard behind me. I turned around as did Shawn. Shawn gritted his teeth.
