Lexi's POV

"Do you have everything?" I asked Devin, as I rummaged through my purse that was on my lap as we waited in the car for Sam and Tayler.

"You've already asked me twice. The answer is still yes." He laughed. I sighed.

"Sorry Dev." I laughed. "Just kinda stressing out about it."

"Crap, I forgot my phone on the charger... I'll be back, I'm gonna run in and get it." I sighed, remembering I plugged in my phone to charge this afternoon, as it was now around five in the evening. I opened the car door and stepped out, shutting it behind me, leaving Devin waiting in the driver's seat. I walked up the steps of the mansion, towards the front door and put my hand on the door handle, pushing open the large front door. I walked straight down the foyer when I heard loud talking in the kitchen. I quickened my pace across the tile floor and saw Shawn's tall figure holding out a gun, he saw me out the corner of his eye, but his body staying as still as a statue.

"What the-" I started to ask when I saw his target... Sam, who was holding a large butcher knife in her right hand, her eyes full of horror.

"Shawn what the hell are you doing?!" I screamed, making my way over and standing right beside Sam.

"Lexi go back outside." Sam said loudly, her voice wavering.

 "No." I said.

"What's going on-" Jc appeared, most likely due to hearing the commotion. Everyone stood still and silent for a few minutes, Shawn still pointing the gun at Sam.

"Jc leave." Sam said, as he shook his head and walked away.

"You need to go with Devin and Lexi." Shawn said to Sam.

"Why are you doing this?? You said you loved her and now you're threatening to shoot her?" I butt in, reaching behind me, to grab my phone in one swift motion.

"You really think you know everything. But you don't know shit." Shawn said, now pointing the gun at me. My heart race picked up and took a deep breath in, when I heard the front door open. I didn't dare turn my head.

"What the hell are you doing? Step away from my girlfriend!" I heard a familiar voice yell. I saw Shawn point the gun at Devin.

"No!" I screamed. And as if it all happened in slow motion, I lunged for Devin, and slipped the gun from his hand. I knew if I did this, it would hurt Sam. But I can't lose another part of my life... I aimed the gun at Shawn's chest and with my finger shaking, pulled the trigger and the deafening sound of the gun go off, disrupting the silence of the house.

"Shit." I breathed out, seeing Shawn collapse on the ground, the sound of doors opening.

"Oh my god...Lexi..." Devin started to say before grabbing my hand and trying to pull me out the door.

"Sam... Tayler... c'mon." I said. Sam stood there. No emotion in her face.

"I'm sorry... I just-" I spoke before she cut me off.

"Let's go." She said, her eyes still on Shawn, motionless on the kitchen floor. We walked out the door, but I stopped when I heard a voice call my name.

"Lexi. You're leaving?"

I turned around to see Ethan standing at the top of the stairs as Devin, Sam and Tayler continued walking to Devin's car. I nodded. He quickly walked down the steps.

"Keep in touch okay?" He whispered, as he pulled me into his chest, his hands running along my hair.

"Ok... but how?" I asked, clearing my throat.

"I guess you'll just have to come visit." He said, as I pulled away. I nodded.

"Bye Ethan." I said, walking out the door and not looking back because I knew I would break. I walked to the passenger's side door, as Sam and Tayler were sitting in the backseat.

"You did the right thing, Lexi." Devin said, resting his right hand on my thigh, after a while of driving and looking out the window in almost complete silence, Sam listening to music, which I know she does if she's upset.

"I can't believe I did that..." I said, looking out the window, not realizing that my cheeks were wet. I reached up to wipe the sudden tears from my face.

"Babe..." He said, keeping his eyes focused on the road, as he watched for the signs that would take us to our apartment. Devin managed to get the apartment with his bid that was actually a little less than the suggested offer.

"I couldn't lose you Devin. I lost Kian and I didn't know what I would do if I lost you too. Losing one part of your life is enough, I couldn't lose another part of it." I said, looking at him as he drove. His greeny - hazel eyes... his jaw clenched as he drove.

"We're almost there..." He glanced at me momentarily, smiling. I forced a smiled back.

"I'm really happy about this..." I said, my mood lightening up a tiny bit.

"About what?" He asked, his thumb lightly rubbing circles on my leg.

"About us. And this; moving into an apartment together. I knew we couldn't stay at the house with everyone forever, and we wouldn't wanna move into my house with my brother." I stated.

"We can always have people over or go back and visit them. We're pretty safe out here in this part of the city too." He said.

"Promise me you'll always protect me?" I whispered, as Devin slowed the car down in front of an apartment, parking it.

"I promise." He answered, leaning across the center console and gently pressing our lips together and pulling away, leaving me wanting more. All four of us got out of the car, grabbing our bags from the trunk. I went through the door first, stepping into the place I could call me and Devin's own. I looked around at the sleek stairs leading upstairs, a huge window taking up most of one of the walls overlooking the city, the glistening modern chandelier in the dining room. I put down my things at the bottom of the stairs.

"I love it..." I breathed out, turning to Devin and hugging him tightly, as he lifted me off the floor.

"I'm glad you do." He said.

"I'm going out." Sam said with her earbuds still in as she walked out the door, slamming it behind her.
