Arin looked anxious as he fiddled with his hands. "And uh...I told someone."

"About being bisexual?"

"No." Arin said. "About...my dad. And my brother too."

Dan gasped. "Who?"

"Sean." Arin said, "I-I told Sean and he said I needed to get my brother on my side."

"For what?"

"I'm going to do something about it." Arin said, "I...I'm going to tell the police."

Dan seemed to think about this, and then suddenly Dan embraced him in a hug. "Wow, I really mean it."

"Mean what?"

Dan buried his head in his shoulder. "That I'm proud of you."

Arin shook his head. "It's...it's the right thing to do. And I've been hiding for so long. My brother...I let him hurt him because I was scared. And what I did to you...I know you say it doesn't bother you but I want you to tell me if you ever get uncomfortable around me."

"I'm not." Dan said, "I'm doing something different. And that's not running away from everyone who hurt me, because I'm not always the victim in the situation. And...I trust you. I'm giving you a second chance and I have no doubt in my mind I'll never need to give you a third."

Arin smiled a little. "Thank you so much. You're the best person I've ever met."

Dan hugged him again. There was a pause before he spoke. "What's going to happen?"

"What do you mean?"

"I know Sean's helping you figure out when is the best time, and how to do it so your father doesn't turn it around and press charges on you but...do you know the outcomes of both sides? If you win...what will happen? If your dad finds a way to get off easy, what will happen?"

[okay so rape laws differ per area so I just did the ones I know, which are my state rape laws. Also, did you know in California it's only one year in jail. I'm shook.]

Arin tenses up. "If I win, my brother and my mom will probably go to live with my grandma for a while. My mum...I don't know what she'll do, but my brother will be relived. And mum may file for a divorce, but then again she always knew what was happening and never did anything. But grandma will 100% definitely get a restraining order on him for herself, Spencer, and if she can convince my mum to divorce him, her too. My grandma never liked my dad, she always tried to take us from him but he was our legal guardian. And...that will be that. Dad will be in prison for First-Degree Rape- which will land him in prison for five years. Since I was under fourteen the first time, they add on a pedophilia charge, and that can get him in prison for life maybe, possibly only ten years."

"Wait, only five years?" Dan exclaimed. "So, at the least he can be in for five years??"

Arin nodded, "Yeah, if he can say he didn't know I was so young, but that's impossible. He's my dad. It's really all up to the judge though. I think I can also press charges on abuse too. And assault many times. And even incest."

"And how long will that get him in prison?"

"Life." Arin said, "Hopefully, a lot of times if I can't directly prove what he did, less than fifteen years."

"Are you kidding me?"

"No." Arin said, "And...because I was over eighteen when he..." Arin gulped and held up his shirt to show some bruises on sides. "Did this to me last time I went home he...he could argue that it was consensual."

Dan's eyes widen. "No...no that's not...how?"

Arin shook his head. "You'd be surprised on who judges decide to believe. He can argue it was consensual, that I made up all the other stuff as a kid, that these marks came from something else."

"Okay, but even if somehow he could argue it was consensual, which it's wasn't, it still counts as incest. So he'd still serve time."

"Yeah, but we'd both get thrown behind bars." Arin whispered.

Dan just kind of froze, calculating all this in his head. Was Arin serious? So if Arins dad was able to get a good enough lawyer, both Arin and Arins dad could get put in jail for incest in the end. But if Arin was able to prove everything he was charging Arins dad of doing, he was going to need a witness to testify for him.

"You're going to win." Dan said, "You not only have one witness, but two."

"Dan-"

"Your mum and your brother." Dan said, "if you can get just one of them to testify with you he's done. And even better yet, if they have any kind of evidence they are 100% your best shot. I may hate my law class, but that doesn't mean I don't listen at all."

"But a lawyer." Arin said, "I don't have any money, and my dad is practically swimming in it."

"Why do you think I major in law, dummy!" Dan shouted with a smile. "I just so happen to know one."

"You do?"

"My second greatest icon." Dan said, "My dad."

AN: I feel like in the first book and even in this one nothing about Dan's dad is really said or emphasized. It's almost like he isn't there, except for the one time Dan's mum tells us he says, "my son likes it up the ass, I can tell."😂
So, I thought I could kind of pull some strings and loop this around, so we can finally look into Dan's dads character because well, he is the one that married the queen that is Dan's mum. He has importance.
