"Why did you invite me here?" Arin asked.
"So we could eat together!" Dan cheered.
"I don't want to eat," Arin said, "I'm trying to get into shape."
"You're literally in perfect shape! You go to the gym like everyday!"
"Not enough," Arin mumbled, picking at his salad sadly.
"You're so weird. Last time you were trying to bulk up and now you're trying to lose weight?"
"Last time I had less to do and more time for the gym so I was converting it into muscle. But school work is getting harder, and I'm starting to just get fat," Arin complained.
"I wish I had your muscles!" Dan said.
"And I really wish I had your ability to look past people's flaws, because I'm ugly," Arin said.
Dan rolled his eyes, "If you were really ugly, you wouldn't be as much of a man whore as you are. You really think all the girls sleep with you because they're nice?"
Arin scoffed, "There is so much more to this than girls, Dan."
"Now I'm worried," Dan said, "Since when has it ever been more than girls for you? That's all you worry about all the time. It's all about girls, girls, girls."
"Well maybe I want to look good for me," Arin said quietly.
"Right, you doing things for you and not to get some girl into your bed," Dan said with doubt in his tone, "And other things that have never happened."
You see, Arin was attractive--that really hot star quarterback on the football team, perfect smile, sculpted jaw and nice hair attractive. Six pack and nice muscles, head cheer leaders tears over infidelity in his shirt kind of boyfriend. He was that looking guy. Every school has that guy. That's what Arin looked like, and even acted like, except he wasn't really a sports guy at all. He was really smart...just rude. A huge jerk without the shouting and sports.
Dan's first impression of Arin was that he was stupid, from the way he was rarely home at first, always out fucking, and how there wasn't a party he missed. But lately Arins been acting better, walking with Dan to class on time and even helping Dan study when he was feeling really generous. It was surprising for one, as anytime Arin had been around Dan before all he did was yell at him and insult him.
"Why did you used to be so mean to me?" Dan asked, the thought now fresh in his mind.
"I'm still mean to you," Arin said.
"But you used to be worse. You hit me once, do you remember?" Dan asked.
Arin looked down at the floor shaking his head, "I was drunk."
"Yeah, but you really hated me and...it really hurt me for a while, you know?" Dan admitted.
"I didn't hate you," Arin said quickly, then gulping like he didn't know to explain, "I mean...sorry."
"Was it because I'm gay, or something?" Dan said, "Or rather something along those lines."
"No," Arin said, "I-" but before he could finish his sentence Dan's phone rang.
