CHAPTER 33 – NYC TRAFFIC

ISABELLE

Isabelle, Alec, Simon, Maryse and Jace were all whispering frantically to each other, waiting for Magnus to arrive. They were all assembled behind the Institute, out of mundane sight, getting drenched by yet another New York downpour.

Isabelle wrapped her arms around Simons necks, pulling him into a tight hug, “I’m going to miss you,” She mumbled into his chest.

“Did I just hear you right?” Simon asked cheekily, “The Isabelle Lightwood is going to miss me? Catch me, I think I may faint!” Simon raised the back of his hand to his forehead, pretending to swoon, only to collide into Isabelle clumsily.

“You’re SUCH a dork!” Isabelle smiled, staring lovingly into Simon’s eyes. She loved his stupid little smirk he always wore, and she loved the way his hair could never really make up its mind about what it wanted to look like.

“So I’ll see you in a week?” Isabelle asked, repeating the question for the one thousandth time.

“Yes, and when you get back, we are so watching every series of the Buffy the vampire slayer,” Simon chuckled, stroking Isabelle’s hair gently.

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer?” Isabelle laughed, “You can’t be serious! You will openly admit to watching a show about the persecution of your own race?”
“Okay Izzy, there were too many big words in that sentence for my tiny, persecute-able vampire mind so I’m going to have to leave now,” Simon joked, pretending to walk away, before Isabelle caught his sleeve.

“Like I said: Total dork!” Izzy laughed.

Magnus appeared from around a corner, looking flustered. His hair looked as if someone had dumped a tub of glitter in it, and his eyeliner looked like two golden slugs stuck onto his eyes.

“Alright Nephilim,” Magnus addressed, his voice cracking at the start, “What life-or-death catastrophe have you summoned me here for this time?”

Maryse advanced towards him and smiled, clearly trying to calm his anxiety. “We are going to need a portal to Idris. Clarissa’s trial commences shortly, and we cannot afford to be late.”
Clary’s trial?
Isabelle had just been told they were visiting Idris for the week, for family and whatnot. What was Clary on trial for?
Apparently, Isabelle had spoken her thoughts aloud, as Jace replied, “The Clave think that Clary is in league with Sebastian. Which is complete and utter bull-“
“Language Jace!” Maryse scolded, looking outraged.

“What I meant to say is, “Jace continued, “That the Clave don’t have a shred of evidence, so Clary won’t get convicted.”
“But doesn’t ‘Clarissa’ have to be at her own trial for a sentence to be handed down?” Isabelle asked.

“Not if the Clave have conclusive evidence that would overrule her testimony.” Maryse answered.

The clave have a reason to convict Clary? This will be interesting.

“Before we begin,” Magnus interrupted, running a hand through his hair, “Have any of you seen Kelsier? We’re off to London to say, and I think Sebastian might have taken her!”
Isabelle heard Alec gasp from somewhere in the corner.

“You-You’re going to London?” Alec sounded perplexed, staring wide eyed at Magnus who appeared to be losing his patience.

“Yes Alexander. Is there a problem?” He snapped.

“Actually,” Jace interjected, “There is. How are you going to go without the pink prune?” Magnus shot Jace a foul glare, then raised a finger at him.

Maryse sighed dramatically before smoothening down her dress. “By the angel, can we get going already? It’s 3:00 already and the meeting begins in half an hour!”
Magnus clasped his hands together, clenched them, and began to trace invisible symbols in the air. After a few minutes, Simon leaned over to her and whispered, “Isn’t it meant to have worked by now?”
“Someone else is trying to portal to Idris, it’s interfering with the portals communications,” Magnus mumbled, not breaking his concentration.

After 10 more minutes of waiting for the ‘traffic to pass by’, Magnus finally had the Portal up and running. Jace was the first to practically sprint through the portal, closely followed by Maryse, and then Alec, hobbling on his crutches.

“You’d better get going,” Simon smiled sadly.

“Can’t you come with us?” Isabelle pouted, already knowing the answer.

“After Inquisitor Aldertree locked me up, I guess it’s safe to say that I’m banned from Idris now,” Simon chuckled.

Simon leant down and kissed her softly on the lips – a soft, slow kiss, but still leaving Isabelle with her head spinning.

Isabelle managed to fumble her way to the portal before looking back.

“I love you!” Simon yelled.

“I... love you too... Simon,” Isabelle replied, before stepping through the portal, and her surroundings fell away around her.

I love him, Isabelle thought with a smile.
