CHAPTER 53 - Absinthe
CLARY
Tugging at the collar of my jumper, I smiled at my reflection in the mirror. As of late, I just looked, felt and acted stronger. It feels like I radiate power, and for once in my life, I feel important. No pleases or thank you’s, just me.
Grabbing an elastic band, I tied my hair up in a high ponytail, fiddling with it in the mirror adjacent to me until I was happy, and then walked into the en suite bathroom of dorm 19.
Sebastian was busy booking them a booth at Devils Dice, and Jace had scarpered off Angel knows where, so I had the room to myself.
I quietly locked the door behind me, then emptied the drawer directly under the mirror on to the table, examining its contents.
Deciding upon not going over the top with makeup, I grabbed a light power and brushed it across my face, then curled my eyelashes. Pleased with the result, I added a thick layer of mascara, coloured my lips with a nude lipstick, then glossed it over with some lipgloss.
When I was younger, I’d never really bothered with makeup, but something about tonight made me feel like a little bit of effort appearance-wise wouldn’t go unnoticed.
Turning in the mirror, I hitched up my high waisted shorts, revealing more of my legs and the pair of fishnet tights I had picked out. At about my mid-thigh, the tights had a beautiful intricate pattern of swirls and lines which even after 10 minutes of wearing, I could not stop looking at. Imagine his reaction, I thought.
Turning around slowly, an empowering smile crept across my lips, eyeing my thigh high boots, and off-the-shoulder green jumper. For the first time in... well, a long time, I felt alluring, enticing, beautiful.
Shoving the makeup back into its drawer, I unlocked the door and headed out into the hallway, to find Sebastian, Amelia, Seth, Felix and Jace already waiting.
Before I had even closed the door, I felt Jace’s eyes on me, raking down my sides, my legs, my shoulders; taking in every inch of me with wide eyes. I nearly jumped in triumph as his breathing hitched at the sight of my tights.
“You took your time,” Sebastian purred, advancing towards me quickly.
“Was it worth it?” I replied, smiling sultrily over at Jace.
“Yes,” Sebastian answered quickly, butting in before Jace could answer. No matter.
“Can we go? Drinks are half price before midnight, and it’s already 9,” Amelia whined, tugging on Seth’s hand. Seth raised Amelia’s hand to his lips and kissed it softly, whispering something to her so quietly that nobody could hear, but her eyes widened once he had finished.
Sebastian opened his palm in front of me, revealing a stele.
