UNKNOWNS POV
A week later, time still seemed to be running in slow motion. Now I stand along with the shadowhunters and downworlders, watching as brother Zachariah walks towards each and every funeral pyre, muttering words of mourning and prayer to the bodies.
First lies the young girl, Amelia. Even though her shape-changer blood didn’t technically earn her a place in a shadowhunter funeral, her extreme bravery certainly had. I hear the whispers of those around me, whisperings of rumours.
“Amelia had met with Tessa in secret, they planned their sacrifice all along...” or “They were too young to die.”
If only they knew.
Next along the line of plain marble funeral pyres was Seth. The boy had been Amelia’s lover, and even though his loathing and slightly psychopathic outlook on life had been tainted at such a young age, it never managed to overpower his love for his partner. Rumour had it that they were engaged in secret, but I was unsure whether to believe rumours.
Next along was the man who’s neck had been snapped when he refused to leave his home. I didn’t even know his name.
The penultimate pyre held the body of Sebastian Morgenstern, traitor to the shadowhunters. The rest of the bodies had been neatly dressed in white silk, ready for the pyre, whereas Sebastian was dressed in black silk. The dark material brought out the paleness of his skin and the lightness of his hair. It was sad really. Sebastian shouldn’t have been allowed a funeral alongside his bretherin, but the Clave had overruled all votes, demanding they accept that Sebastian had been made evil by the demon blood Valentine forced into his system; it hadn’t been his fault.
Zachariah returned to first pyre, refusing to look at the final marble structure. Placing his hands on Amelia’s shoulders, her body set alight quickly, the flames engulfing her delicate skin quickly, mercifully even.
The crackle of the first flames had caused everyone to take a step back. From the corner of my eye, I spotted Clary, Jace, Alec and Isabelle standing respectfully, eyes locked to the floor as they mourned. I smiled at the sight. Through all this, they remained strong.
They stayed alive.
Moving onto the second pyre, brother Zachariah ignited the body quickly just as he had the first pyre, then moved onto the next two bodies, quickly doing the same. Lastly, he moved onto the final pyre, where he placed his hands on his deceased fiancé of 200 years shoulders. Jem Cairstairs was Brother Zachariah’s birth name, and he had fallen in love with Tessa Gray and never stopped loving her. I smiled sadly.
I watched as Jem’s shoulders shook, and a tear splashed down onto the woman’s cheek below him, and stood with his hands resting on her shoulders as if trying to revive her.
“Brother? Light the pyre Brother,” The consul said from somewhere in the crowd.
t see his face through the shadows of his hood, but my current state granted me the ability to do so.
Looking down at the body one last time, Jem set the body on fire, hiccupping a sob back as the crowd began to walk away, leaving him to prepare the ashes for spreading.
“Tessie...” He whispered, brushing his hood back and wiping his eyes with a sniff.
Stepping forwards, I rested a hand on his shoulder, and he lifted his head up quickly.
"Who’s there?” He asks with a hint of danger in his voice. “Tessie? Is that you?” I smile and step in front of him, pressing a hand to his cheek, but it passes straight through him. With a sad sigh, I press a gentle kiss to his forehead, before stepping away, meeting Will’s eyes.
“Well done sweetheart,” He soothes, his hand drawing circles on the small of my back as he leads me away. His hair was in his natural bed-head style, and he looked exactly as I did when I first met him. We had beautiful children together, and I hoped to see them soon. Will towered above me, his muscular form soothing the ache in my heart. I had waited so long for Will, he glint in his beautiful eyes, his sarcastic smirk and his failed attempts at being gentlemanly.
Although my heart was divided by both Jem and Will, I would never stop loving either of them, I would love them forever.
I would love them both for eternity.
______________________________________
I know it was short guys, but I feel like Tessa is an important character in the way that she is present in the Infernal Devices Series, and she has to be without the love of her life for over 200 years, and she can't be with Jem because he is a Silent brother. Wessa (Will and Tessa) is a really adorable ship, so they needed to be together again.
CLARY AND JACE. Ah yes. Although I'm not going to write about it, Clary and Jace do end up spending the rest of their lives together (if I had continued, that is where it would be going). I imagining them having one child, a son, so the Herondale family line will continue. They don't need to be married because they have the eternity rune, so they are bound either way. They are the perfect match, and they become one of the most famour shadowhunter couples in history, and fight demons together for large portions of their life.
JOCELYN AND LUKE. Read City of Heavenly Fire, then tell me if you like what happened ;) Not sure what I'd do with them (ooo err (;) in this series, I don't really ship them in case you hadn't guessed.
SIMON AND ISABELLE. You see, here is a problem. Ones immortal, one's not. Unfortunately, Simon will live longer than Isabelle, but I imagine them to live long happy lives together.
ALEC AND MAGNUS. Definitely together. Alec was the only shadowhunter Magnus every loved, and he will be the last. Alec and Magnus would have adopted a daughter, and taught her to be the most loving little girl who loved and trusted both shadowhunters and warlocks.
Thank you all for completing this journey with me, I literally love you all. I wanted like 10 views, and now I'm at 7.6k. Wowser bowser, I can't even... Every time I get a follower I do a little dance that looks like a sort of seizure, so keep it up :P
One last favour? Please reccomend this fanfic to other people! I read so many fanfics I recommend almost all of them to other people, and if you have any fanfics you would like me to read, send me a personal message, or just pop up and have a chat with me anyway. Love to hear from you guys!
Atque in pepetuum, frater, ave atque vale.
Forever and ever, my brother, hail and farewell.
