Chapter 16

I sat in my room thinking about what had just happened. Why did she go all ape-shit on me like that? Is she on drugs? Is she on her period? There were just so many reasons that could explain why her temper was so short lately. I began to work on a new security camera that Lapis asked for a couple days ago. However, I just couldn't focus on it too much. I mean, I get that she's jealous that I'm spending more time with Lapis and all, but did she really have to go crazy like that?

I just think of all of the times that I've apologized to her and been nice to her. Why can't I have someone to comfort me for a change? Maybe that's just too much to ask for with my circumstances right now. I ended up working on the camera for longer than I expected, because the next time I checked the clock, it was already 10:34 PM. I was exhausted. I then realized that I told Lapis that I'd stop by her room again tonight. 

I decided to text her to let her know that I got caught up in working. 

Peridot: Hey, u still want me to come over? Srry got caught up in work...

Lapis: It's cool. I actually got caught up in a lot of work myself - Pearls kept badgering me about assignments and whatnot :/

Lapis: You don't have to if you don't wanna come over...

Peridot: Of course I wanna come over! There's always time for you <3

Lapis: Aw alright ^ ^

Peridot: But I also need to talk to you about something...

Lapis: What's wrong?

Peridot: Something happened earlier today, and I'm a little confused about it

Lapis: Come over and you could tell me about it, k?

Peridot: Ok

Lapis: See ya soon ;)

Peridot: ;)

I stood up and stretched, unintentionally making an over-exaggerated grunt noise. I picked up my leather jacket, and slipped it on, grabbing my phone in the process. I put it in my pocket and was ready to walk out the door. I opened my front door, but I was stopped by Jasper standing there already, with the same frightening expression as earlier. 

I stepped back in fear, and looked at her with a questioning expression. "W-what're you doing here?" I asked shakily. She stomped forward, her step echoing the whole hallway. Her breathing began to speed up, and it looked like she was hyperventilating at this point. Her face was still filled with rage, and she bared her sharp teeth, and raised her hand up. "I'm sorry..." she mutters.

I looked at her hand for a moment, and realized she was holding a pocketknife in it. My reflexes kicked in and I quickly stepped to the side, barely dodging Jasper's attempt at stabbing me. "JASPER?! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" I screeched, backing away. She responded with an angry holler, and she ran toward me, knife aiming directly at my heart. She jerked the weapon down, and I ducked and rolled under her legs. 

If she were any shorter, I probably would've been a goner.  I ran for my pistol on the desk, but I forgot to ask Lapis how to reload it, so it was pretty much useless. Jasper charged me again, and I screamed as loud as I could, and I hid under the table where Jasper couldn't reach. She then kicked her foot under the table, and hit my knee. I shrieked in pain, and crawled deeper into the corner of under the table. 

"JASPER STOP!!!" I begged as Jasper repeatedly tried to kick me. I tried crawling deeper, but this time, I wasn't successful. I let out a high-pitched scream as Jasper grabbed me by the legs and dragged me from under the table like a scene from a horror movie. I flipped over onto my back, and I looked up at Jasper in terror. "Over here!" I hear a voice shout from the doorway. It was familiar - it was Bismuth's voice! 

Jasper and I looked over at the doorway, and Bismuth seemed to be leading someone here. Lapis then runs in with her baseball bat. She literally takes that thing everywhere. "BISMUTH! LAPIS! HELP!" I yell, and Jasper looks back down at me. She once again tries to stab me, but Bismuth pins Jasper's arms behind her back.

The buff woman thrashes and struggles, but Bismuth has a firm grip on her. Lapis then walks up to Jasper with a dark expression on her face, and she raises the bat over her head once again. She swings down with one swift move and whacks Jasper over the head with it, knocking her out instantly. I sit and stare at the unconscious Jasper before me, and I put my hand on chest to keep my heart from stopping.

"You okay, bud?" Bismuth asks, helping me up. "Y-yeah...I-I'm alright..." I stutter, dusting myself off. "Peri! What happened?!" Lapis's mood immediately changes from violent to worrisome. She runs up to me and begins searching me for any injuries. "Jasper j-just came in and went crazy and tried to fuckin' kill me!" I explain. 

Lapis grabs her cellphone from her pocket and speed-dials someone. She holds the cell up to her ear, and her expression is more relaxed now. "Pearl, get me two Rubies here, ASAP." Lapis states, and with that, she hangs up. "How did you guys know Jasper was even here?" I ask curiously. "Well first off, my room ain't that far from yours. Second, I heard screaming and shit bein' thrown around, and it sounded like bloody murder in here, so I assumed somethin' was up..." Bismuth explains.

"...so Bismuth called me and I came as soon as I heard." Lapis added. Two Rubies then enter the room, and examine the scene before them. "You called, boss?" one of the Rubies asked, and Lapis nodded. "Take this Jasper down to the work room with the rest of the Jaspers. Tell them to figure out what the hell is up with Jessie and have them get back to me." the bluenette commands, twirling the bat in her hands. "Yes, ma'am." the Rubies said in unison, and with that, they each grabbed one of Jasper's arms, and they dragged her out.

"Tonight actually might be a busy night for me. I might not be in my room the whole time and I don't wanna just leave you there, so do you maybe wanna stop by tomorrow instead?" Lapis asks with an apologetic expression on her face. "Of course, of course I just uh.....looks like I'll have to keep my door locked tonight, huh?" I joke, scratching the back of my neck.

Lapis giggles, and nods in agreement. "Alright, well take care, Peri. I'll see ya tomorrow, 'k?" she says. She leans and kisses me and after a few seconds, I kiss back. We eventually break apart, and I guess we totally forgot that Bismuth was standing there, because her presence startled me for a moment. Bismuth only glanced at Lapis, then back at me, and winked. She gave me a smirk, and with that, she walked out of the room, followed by Lapis.

I closed the door, and made sure to lock both locks, and I went to bed.
