Peridot's POV:
We spent about an hour trying to research and figure out who those two mysterious murderers were. We knew they weren't the Topazes, and they weren't the Crystal Gems either - so who the hell could they be?! "Maybe we should ask some gang members and see if they witne--" I was interrupted by the sound of the doorknob jiggling and opening slowly.
Sadie and I both looked over to the doorway, and saw Lapis standing there. It was very dark in the security room, so it took me a few seconds to adjust to the sudden light pouring in from the outside. Lapis was just a blurry and shadowy figure for a moment, and as soon as my eyes adjusted, I let out a yelp of terror.
Lapis had a large blood splatter on her face, neck, and her shirt was covered in blood as well. I looked further down and noticed blood on her jeans and all over her shoes. She was pretty much covered head-to-toe with horrifying blood splatters. "WUAGH! LAPIS WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!" I shouted, my voice cracking.
She surprisingly had a neutral expression on her face, and she just sighed. She closed her eyes and walked into the room, closing the door behind her. She raised her hand up, and there appeared to be a bloody pocketknife in it. Her grip loosened and she dropped the knife onto the floor, and she slumped into a nearby chair.
I stood up, and bent over to check Lapis to see if she had any injuries. "Are you okay?! How did this happen?! LAPIS ANSWER ME!" I shrieked, putting both of my hands on her either side of her bloody face. She eyes darted downward and she avoided eye contact with me. There was dead silence for a while, and I was about to tell her to speak up again.
"They're dead." the bluenette deadpanned, and I just stared at her for about 10 seconds before trying to process what she just said. "W-what? Who?" I asked in a trembling voice. "I made a promise to myself, and I kept it. The Topazes are dead." Lapis said in a monotonous tone, which might I add was really frightening me.
I realized that this was a different side of Lapis that I didn't get to know too well. I knew that she was dangerous, but I couldn't believe that she murdered the two girls. "Lapis had to take her anger out on something I guess, so she performed one of the hardest assignments she needed done herself; Lapis took out over 30 Crystal Gems in one night with only a pistol and pocketknife on her. A perfect center bullet-hole in each and every one of of the bodies' heads. No one knew how she did it, but no one questioned her ..." I remembered those spine-chilling words Jasper told me before she was corrupted.
Just this one moment made me realize that Lapis was literally like a time bomb - it could go off any minute and blow me to pieces. I realized that I needed to be extremely careful around this chick or I could get mutilated or some shit. But then again - she did kill the Topazes because they hurt me. She did this to avenge me. She brutally murdered these girls.....for me.
So she wouldn't just turn on me one day like that would she? She loves me. Right? She wouldn't just kill me if I made her angry once or twice, right? Right? I was feeling really conflicted at the moment, and I dropped both of my hands from Lapis's face. I began to shake violently, and things started to look blurry.
I took a few wobbly steps back, and I tried grabbing onto something for support but unfortunately there was nothing there - so I snatched at the air and fell backwards onto the hard floor, hitting my back pretty hard. I blacked out for like a minute, and when I woke up, Lapis's bloody face was the first thing I saw.
Out of instinct, I backed away as fast as humanly possible and hit my back against the wall. Lapis looked hurt that I backed away so quickly. I wanted to scoot forward, but for some reason I just couldn't. "Peridot?! Are you okay?! It's just me!" Lapis said, slowly walking towards me. Sadie just stood there, looking terrified. "I....yeah. I just um...blacked out for a sec, that's all..." I muttered nervously, scratching the back of my neck.
Lapis reached her hand out and I for some reason flinched and cursed myself for doing so. The bluenette pulled her hand back, shocked at my sudden reaction. "Are you....s-scared of me?" Lapis asked, and she had a hurt expression on her face that really broke my heart. "NO! No no no! Not at all! I just.....it's just a little spooky to barge in here covered in blood from head to toe, don't ya think?" I asked in a nervous tone.
Lapis's POV:
I looked down at my hands and saw that they were stained crimson and so was the rest of my clothes. I didn't realize that I had gotten so much on me. I looked back at Peridot and her expression said it all - she was afraid of me. B-but I did this for her....I didn't mean to scare her! I-I thought this would make her happy....
"Peridot...I....I'm sorry if I scared you....they hurt you so much and for what? Nothing! They beat you up for nothing! You wouldn't in a million years deserve that, Peri! I had to do something about it, I-I had to make them pay for what they did!" I explained frantically, realizing that what I was saying made me sound more like a psychopathic serial killer.
"...d-did you have to kill them, though?" Peridot asked after a few seconds of silence. Did I have to? Maybe I went too far?! "Peridot.......you're the only person that I have ever truly cared about in a very long time...and it kills me to see you get hurt...and I-I guess I got a little carried away and when I saw the opportunity I.....I took it...." I said, looking down in utter shame.
Silence.
"I-I'm gonna go check on the drinks out there and make sure that they're, uh, organized in alphabetical order...okayberightback!" Sadie quickly said before dashing out the door and closing it behind her. "Lapis....I care about you too. You know I would die for you....b-but you can't take your anger out in this particular way! It's unhealthy!" Peridot said with a concerned look on her face.
I kept my eyes on the floor. Memories of all of those Crystal Gems I killed flooded my mind and tears began filling my eyes. "...I'm horrible, Peridot. I-I can't control it....if I don't take it out on other people then I might take it out on you on accident! I would kill myself if I ever hurt you like that." I said, choking on my words.
We stood there for about two minutes in dead silence, and the tension was eating away at me inside. Peridot then suddenly stood up from her corner, walked up to me, and wrapped her arms around my waist, nuzzling her head into the crook of my neck. I hugged her back, resting my chin on her shoulder, uncontrollable tears rolling down my cheeks.
Peridot's POV:
I could feel her hitched breathing and it really broke my heart. She can't control this....I have to think of a way to distract her from doing any more this, I thought as we continued to embrace in each other's warmth. I relished in her touch, and I wished we would stay like this forever. However, nothing lasts forever, and Lapis eventually released from the hug. "You wanna go back home?" the bluenette asked, sniffling and roughly wiping the tears from her face.
"Why don't we get you cleaned up first?" I asked, looking her up and down. "You too." Lapis said, smirking. Huh? I looked down and realized that some of the blood that was on her clothes rubbed off onto mine and I began to squeal and curse uncontrollably. I rubbed my face out of stress and realized that some of the blood was on my hands - iT wAs On mY fUcKiNg FaCe!!! Lapis snorted and laughed hysterically, watching my temper tantrum go down.
.....
We were in the bathroom and I had cleaned Lapis up first since she was the messiest. Lapis then grabbed a tissue and wrapped her arms around my waist. I wrapped my arms around her neck and wrapped my legs around her waist. She lifted me up and sat me on the counter. She wet the tissue and started dabbing my nose first. She wiped other areas that were covered in blood and eventually she backed up and studied me. "That should be good." she said, putting her hands on her hips.
"I'm Lori. What's your name?" She asks in a sweet tone of voice as we walked to the school bathroom."P-Penelope..." I mumble, staring at her in awe close-up as she was cleaning the blood from my nose with a tissue. She backed up and looked satisfied. "That should be good." She states, putting her hands on her hips triumphantly.
Why can't we just be little kids again.....
