Percy felt stupid.
But he hoped that he also looked brave as well, as he flew through the air, the ice shattering around him, turning into water to shield him from the impact. His ears were ringing, completely deaf to the noise of the outside world. It was at this moment that he knew...he really hated Steve and Thor.
Let's rewind, shall we?
🌊🌊🌊
As the dryad faded back into her tree, Percy turned back to survey the battle to hopefully bring it to a halt. The two men didn't give any hint of stopping soon, so he decided that he would actually have to do something.
He winced as Tony was sent flying by Thor, and he crashed through a few branches that snapped clean off. Moments later, Tony was back again and he flew through the same path of destruction back to Thor like a strange Frisbee or something.
There was a clang of metal as Tony landed a solid blow to Thor's head. As he was considering his options from behind the tree, Percy heard someone land nearby.
"HEY!" Steve shouted, hurling his shield at the two fighting men and catching it when it came back, "That's enough."
"Exactly!" Percy exclaimed as he emerged from his hiding spot.
Steve gave him a look of pure surprise, gaping when he saw the boy wave at him happily. "I'm still blaming Tony for not catching me," he said huffily.
It was at that moment that Percy decided to confront Thor and Tony.
"You two, do you even consider the damage you're doing to this forest? Look around you, the trees are being smashed, broken and utterly annihilated. Are you two tree destroyers or something? Trees matter guys!" he lectured them angrily, pointing to the destruction around them to emphasize his point.
No one said anything, so he continued.
"And you, do you think you're a god or something? Why the hell are you doing whatever you want?" Percy asked Thor.
"Um, actually, he is a god," Tony supplied helpfully.
"Well, you must be the god of nothing then because apparently, that's all that's in your head," Percy said. "Can't you see the poor dryads?"
Thor looked at him blankly, seeing nothing until Percy walked up to him and pointed a dryad sitting glumly by the broken tree.
"Oh, I am very sorry. But your friend here attacked me first," Thor said with a small bow to Percy.
"Put the hammer down," Steve warned Thor with an authoritative voice. Percy wasn't near done yet, he still had to give Tony a proper talk on plant lives and such, but Thor clearly didn't like Steve's attitude.
"You want me to put the hammer down?" he roared angrily.
Percy wasn't sure what caused the dramatic change, all Steve said was to put the weapon down. Clearly, there was some form of attachment going on there. He ducked out of the way as Thor charged towards Steve, jumping a good three meters into the air to reach the soldier.
"WATCH THE TREES!" Percy called out as the hammer landed on the shield with a deafening screech of metal.
🌊🌊🌊
That's really all that happened.
Percy attempted to get tree awareness. Steve asked Thor to put the weapon down. Thor got triggered. They were all screwed
When Percy first saw the blue light approaching him, his first thought was 'oh look, it's pretty'. And then he realised that it was full of deadly energy that was trying to kill him and blast him back to the stone age.
His water was still floating around him, completely unnoticed due to its quietness and transparency. Instinctively, he brought it around and froze it to offer some protection against the blast.
He heard the trees snapping and cracking, and groaned silently inside his head. What would Grover say if he found out? The ice buckled and cracked under the force, flying back and slashing Percy across his arms and head.
Only milliseconds later, it morphed into water, encasing his body so that he would be protected from the explosion.
Then he hit the ground, hard.
The air was knocked out of him, and Percy gasped for air, drawing it painfully into his lungs. Pain erupted from his previously injured side, and this time he was certain he had broken something. Thankfully, the water around him instantly started to do its job, easing the pain and healing bleeding cuts.
For a couple of minutes, no one moved, and Percy was glad that he wasn't the only one stunned to death by the blast. Slowly, very slowly, the branches and dead leaves on the forest floor began to rustle as someone stood up.
Percy groaned and moved the water that was around his head away so he could breathe the air. He tiredly moved the rest of the water away so that only a band around his torso remained. Sucking in a deep breath, Percy winced and exhaled quickly. Yup, definitely needed that there for a while.
The four of them were now in a sort of semicircle, each looking at each other warily. The smoke rose from the smoldering trees, and Percy shared a pained look with the dryad he had helped earlier.
Ignoring everyone else, Percy walked over to the dryad and placed a hand on her shoulder. "I have satyr friends who can come and help, I'll let them know as soon as I can," Percy reassured her gently.
She nodded quickly, casting a glare at Thor and Steve before vanishing back into the forest.
Percy turned back to see that Tony's mask was up, revealing his stunned expression and slack jaw. "Told you trees matter," Percy grumbled in annoyance.
Seeing that they were practically all unharmed, apart from Stark's suit, he facepalmed and sighed.
"Guys, please remember that I am an ordinary person who happens to have water powers. That does not mean I can escape a supernatural explosion unharmed," he said with a steely tone in his voice.
To prove his point, the cut on the forehead began to pour with blood, dripping down and forcing him to close his left eye. Pointing to the wound, Percy smiled and said, "See?"
"Sorry, Percy. It was unintentional," Steve said as he steered the boy to the plane that was landed nearby. "Are we done here?" he asked the others.
Thor didn't say anything, but Stark, being the oh so intelligent one, spoke up.
"And how did you get your water powers or whatever they are?" he asked curiously.
Percy glowered at him and replied, "Not the time Stark, not the time."
"So, when will it be time?"
"NEVER!"
Ok that was pretty short, but I'm busy this Saturday so I can't write any more haha. Next one will probably be longer, so yeah.
