Chapter 14

I wake up and I see Cody sitting beside me. But this time we are in a room.

"You're awake." Cody looks at me.

"Where are we?" I look at the room and it looks like we are in a hotel room.

I try to sit because I'm lying down. But when I try to, I was suddenly greeted by sharp pain to my back and arms. I tried to sit but I still couldn't do it.

"We're in Chicago." Cody slides the curtain and I see the glorious city of Chicago. I notice that Cody doesn't look like him anymore. He's all not energetic and his scars also changed his face, he's not the Cody that's all energetic and happy that I used to know.

"What happened to you?" I look at Cody and he looks worried.

"I don't think we are safe anymore. We have to be undercover already."

I give him a puzzled look and try to process what he said.

"Lars is Jason's brother right?"

"Yes why?"

"I think I have to explain the information we have so far. I have been hiding it for at least 2 months already." Cody sighs.

"Back then, your parents, with the fake dad, are both working in CIA. Your mother resigned to take care of you, while your fake dad was going undercover in the CIA while he is working for the Rolando's. Now the Rolando family is kinda not a family. Amanda Rolando, Cervi's wife, is an infamous gang leader. Amanda's gang name was Carvo. So Cervi and Amanda were parents to two sons while they are operating two gangs at the same time."

Cody continues. "When Amanda was compromised and was killed by both of your parents, again with your fake dad. The Carvo's heir is Lars. Lars is an adopted son while Jason is the son of Amanda and Cervi. Jason and Lars don't go very well as being brothers, Lars is in the side of his mother while Jason is in the side of Cervi so if Cervi dies Jason will take over Rolando and when Amanda dies Lars will take over Carvo. My point is there are two gangs hunting us."

I am getting angry with my parents for involving me to this tangled mess, and why did my real father divorce with my mom? I need to rest from all of this information.

"Lars has worked a project known as Pegasus. This project is about making an exoskeleton that can protect the human body from serious injuries while making the wearer also strong. Jason's project is named Phoenix. His project is to modify the genes of humans to make a powerful army to rule over America. The problem is instead of being allies with Lars, Jason decided to have war with Lars. In about 7 months both of the projects will be done."

"If Jason and Lars are at war." I tell Cody. "Why were they together when I was in the woods?"

"Now that I can't explain." Cody gets a glass of water and drinks it.

"So what are we gonna do?" I ask Cody.

"Our best option is to not draw attention and stay undercover. But the problem is, I want projects Pegasus and Phoenix to be stopped before America will become a warzone."

"I think we should regroup with the others and form a plan."

"Well, we can't necessarily do that."

"Why?"

"Chicago's borders with the other cities are monitored by the Carvo's and if we do get out our mission is compromised."

"How about we let the other go in Chicago?"

"Carvo somewhat owns part of Chicago because one of it's officials is the Secretary of the United States. If we do try to communicate with them, it will also be a problem. Since we are wanted by both gangs they are monitoring all the cities. Telephones, cars, any source of information they could track us with."

"But I can try to jam the signal and try to contact the others." Cody stands up and looks out the window.

The sun shines through the windows and makes like a scene in the movie. Cody looks like he's acting for a movie, the background is beautiful and he also looks handsome.

Unfortunately I still can't sit because of the pain causing my body not to move that much. I think this is the first time I will follow what my body wants, rest. I never liked sleeping and resting, I hunger for action and progress.

"When could we contact them?" I ask Cody.

"Could you walk?"

"Help me first to stand up."

Cody grabs my back and I eventually stand up. I could walk properly but my problem is lying down but I think that's only a problem in the future.

"I need a laptop and a hacking system to jam and call the others."

We decided to go to StarBucks where there are a lot of people with really good laptops that we can use. As soon as we enter we steal a laptop and run as far as we can while the guards are chasing us.

Now what we need is a place with WiFi. We went back the hotel and Cody decided to hack the WiFi there.

"This will take a while." Cody types on his laptop. "Could you get a phone?"

I go down to streets and get someone's phone and run as fast as I can. I eventually lost him and I go back to the hotel, when I entered the hotel room Cody's done hacking the system and we were able to call the others.

"Hello?" A familiar voice said.

"Javièr?"

"Yes. Who is this?"

"It's Ray and Cody!" I was excited to hear his voice.

"Thank God you're still alive! You were in the news a few weeks ago and it said there that both of you were presumed dead!"

"That's bullshit. It's either Carvo or Rolando who did that." Cody says.

"Anyways, the main reason we called you is to tell you that you need to be in Chicago. We are being monitored by two gangs and we need you to go inside Chicago. Bring the others with you."

"O-" It got cut off. And it got exchanged with someone else's voice.

"Ray." It said. "I need to talk with you privately."

I look at Cody and he said 'go talk with the person'.

I went in the living room and sat down.

"Who is this?"

"It's Jason. I have to tell you something."
