Blood, Sweat, and Tears

Chapter 37

"Here." Jason hands me a water bottle.

"Thanks." I grabbed the bottle and chugged it down.

It has been 20 minutes ever since we left the station. Our train was just the old type, where it's just used for cargo to transport between cities. After drinking my water I looked around. This part of the train is smaller compared to the rest but we still fit, everyone has their own corners. Without the awkward silence I would be just fine but I'm just socially awkward.

"Hey." I pat Cody's back. He just looks to me with no reaction whatsoever, then he looks back down again.

"I'm sorry about your dad." I don't know anyway to comfort someone with family problems so I just say sorry even though I was not involved in any way.

"It's not your fault." Cody looks at me and just purses his lips. He clearly still did not recover from the experience.

"I.. I just.." Cody's eyes start to tear but he's obviously trying to hold it back.

"Hey, we're here. We are your family." I give him a warm smile.

"Thanks Ray. Family not by blood." I give him a hug. He is my best friend after all.

I still haven't met my real dad, and I want to find him. I still have no regrets for what happened until now, my "fake" dad and my mom died just because they were dragged into my dad's business.

During the trip I was just standing and walking around thinking. Lars is seriously dangerous, considering the projects he is working for which I am assuming he's going to use for world domination. All this thinking is making me tired, I haven't gotten a good sleep since forever. But I have to stay awake, no matter what.

"Ray." Jason lifts my hair that's covering my eyes and touches my cheek, it seems that I slept again.

"Where are we?" I sit up and I see the train door open. I was expecting for us to jump off or something.

"The train just stopped for some reason." Vanessa looks outside. It's night time but the train has lights so I can see quite far.

"Train driver is gone." Cody climbs up inside. His puzzled look is making me worried for what's gonna happen next, might be a trap.

"Might be a trap." Jason turns off the lights and tells us all to hide.

"Shh. I hear something."

I hear movement, although it's far away from us. It sounds like they're opening the compartments of the train one by one, Javièr takes a quick look then Jason pulls him inside.

"Probably 15 to 20 people, all of them are armed."

"Wait, where's Tyler?" I look around and near Vanessa but I can't find him.

"He said he was just going to piss in the woods a few minutes ago." Javièr points straight towards us into the woods. I don't know how Tyler will find his way back.

"Hey guys!!" I hear someone shout from far away, in the woods. Without thinking I already know who that was. Shit.

BANG!!

I hear multiple gunshots shooting at the direction of Tyler, I saw him drop down to the grass and use the trees to cover himself. Or he's just dead, either way is possible.

"Go!" Jason leads us as we escape the train and run the other way, we ran as far as we can until Jason told us to stop.

"Stay here. I'll get Tyler." The Jason sprints off.

BANG!!

"Shit." Cody ran and followed Jason.

"You guys stay here." I look at them. I see Javièr, Vanessa, and Kyle but not the twins.

"Where are the twins?" I ask Javièr, he had a worried look on his face.

"I don't know. They left and didn't come back."

No matter how much I want to help Tyler I don't want to risk losing another one of us. What will happen if the three of them won't come back? How about the twins?

The rest of us were just hiding and waiting until they come back, then I hear multiple footsteps. My heart nearly stopped but I heard the voice.

"Run!" I look over the grass and I see Jason and Cody with Tyler's arms wrapped around both of them.

I waited for them before I ran, Tyler has 2 wounds and they're bleeding badly. Cody can't walk properly so I changed with Cody and carried Tyler with Jason.

"Where's the twins?" I look at Jason. He looks like he's okay, I check his right side and I see a bullet wound.

"Just run."

We continue running until we eventually over ran the gunners. We get deeper in the woods until it's only the moon and the trees that are visible. We decided to stay in for the night, all we had was 2 jackets so we used 1 for Tyler while Jason gives me the other one. He gives me his jacket and tells me to use it because it's going to be cold for tonight.

"Thanks. Uh I have a question." I grab the turtle neck jacket and wear it.

"What?" Jason looks at me.

"Let's talk somewhere else." I decided that the other should probably not hear our conversation.

We walk for a few minutes until we stop and sit down.

"Why are you like this?" I ask Jason, while he's throwing small rocks on the ground. Jason sighs deeply and looks at me with deep concern.

"I dunno." Jason just looks at the moon.

I look at him half disappointed half clueless.

"You already know Ray. Why I changed and why I'm like this." Jason walks back to the others.

I think about it for a few minutes real hard. Then it hit me, real hard as well.

Jason loves me.

I plan to finish at Chapter 40 but it looks like I will have to extend it.

I also plan to make a sequel to this, but I might make another book before I make a part 2 of this.
