Today is the day I get to see my mother's parents. I have grandparents, I can't believe it. I wonder are they the type of grandparents that spoil their grandchildren, bake cookies, and always cook good home meals. My mom drove up this long driveway that leads to a huge mansion. What the.. my grandparents live here. I look at mom in bewilderment.

"What it's just a house no big deal." she said.

" No big deal, it's a mansion mom with a water fountain in the front. Look at the stairs just to get into the front door. What do they do for a living?"I asked.

"Grandmother is a neurosurgeon and your grandfather is a partner at the law firm where your father works." Mom said. That's amazing. We get out of the car as I kept looking at the mansion in amazement. Mom went up to the door to ring the doorbell. A young woman came to answer the door.

"Hello, Lydia is my parents home." Mom said.

"Yes, ma'am they are." She said opening the door all the way to let us in. She closed the door behind us and walked in front of us. The inside was beautiful just like the outside. Modern decor throughout and it was bright with natural sunlight coming through. Lydia led us to a living room where a dark skin man was reading a newspaper and a light skin woman was sitting reading a book.

"Mrs. Scott and her daughter are here." Lydia announced. The older man and women turned to look at us. They both stood up with a smile on their face.

"Ella how are you, my dear girl." The women said. She doesn't look like she could be my grandmother, she looks young. She looked at me.

"Gabriella so good to finally meet you." she said giving me a hug.

"It's nice to finally meet you to grandma." I said. Grandpa made his way over to us.

"Gabriella is such a pretty name. Fit for a princess." He said.

"I don't know about a princess, but thanks." I said. Grandpa looked like he was about to say something but mom cut in.

"So how has it been in Deadwood since we've been gone." Mom said.

"Well, a lot you can see. Why don't we take this into the kitchen over a pot of tea." Grandma said looking at me with a smile on her face.

"Um, James dear I know there are other things you can talk to Gabriella about, yes." Grandma said with a look on her face I couldn't guess what it was but grandpa sure did seem to get it.

"Lydia could you get me and Gabriella some milk and cookies, please. Do you like chocolate chip cookies?" Grandpa asked me.

"Yes, I love chocolate chip cookies." I told him. Lydia left the living room with mom and grandma following behind her.

"So Gabriella, how is school going?" Grandpa asked.

"It's going good, I made some friends and this girl Britney seems doesn't like me very much. Which I don't know why because I didn't do anything to her. Maybe it's because I'm new to town."I said. Lydia came back with a tray of milk and cookies and sat it between us on the table.

"Britney, isn't she Mayor Marcus's daughter?" Grandpa asked.

"Yes, the one and only." I said.

"I don't like her father. There's something about him that's off." Grandpa said.

"Really, he seemed normal at the festival." I said.

"Looks can be deceiving Gabriella." Grandpa said taking a drink of milk.

"How is dad doing at the law firm.I don't get to see him as much except when it's dinner time, other than that he's always working." I said.

"Being a lawyer is very consuming. There are always cases that need to be looked over." Grandpa said.
