"Why didn't you guys tell me you were wolves?" I asked.

"We didn't know how to explain it to you since you wasn't born in Deadwood. When we moved back here the town was hesitate to turn in front of you. Everyone thought you was an outsider until we told them that your mother was Nina Amador." She said.

"Did you have to tell the council who I was?" I asked.

"It was a close committee meeting. No outside people were allowed in given who your mother's father is." Dad said.

"What happened to my grandfather?" I said. I can't let them know that I already knew about my grandfather.

"Seventeen years ago your grandfather was convicted of killing your grandmother." Dad said.

"Why did he kill her?" I asked.

"Rumors were they got into an argument before her death. Everyone in town went to the trail." Dad said.

"Everyone believed he did it." I said.

"No not everyone. I mean if you were around that time everyone saw how much he loved his wife. They got into arguments like every other couple but you can see the love they had for each other." Dad said.

"Was it a setup?" I ask.

"You know there were talks that he could have been set up. I was a teenager back then but at first when the trail started there were evidence that wasn't backing up his story. People thought he was going to walk away a free man for being wrongly accused. Then all of a sudden new evidence turned up so a few people thought that was strange." Mom said. I thought so too.

"Now about your birthday." Dad said. Oh boy here it goes.

"What I'm about to say will seem strange and untrue but you have to understand." Dad said. " In Deadwood our ancestors were known to shapeshift into wolves. It was pass down to generation after generation. Deadwood was created to keep outsiders out so the we would be able to turn without fearing someone would see us. Everyone on their sixteenth birthday goes through the transformation so you will be turning soon." Dad said.
'
"Will it hurt?" I asked.

"Everyone is different. Some say it hurts. Like all their bones are breaking, some says it was quick and painless." Dad said.

"When were you guys ever going to tell me this, was you going to wait until my birthday when I turned." I said.

"No we were going to tell you before your birthday." Mom said. I turned back to dad to notice that he's looking at me kind of strange.

"Gabriella you seem calm after everything we told you why is that." He said. I was trying not to sound so shock by it but I guess I wasn't putting on a good front, maybe I can lie my way out.

"I'm not calm it's just a lot to process." I told him. Yeah that sounds good.

"It is a lot to process but don't worry we will be with you every step of the way." Mom said. At that moment I heard a howl from outside.

"Would that be one of the townspeople?" I asked.

"Actually that was the signal for our annual hunting and securing our land." Dad said getting up with my mom following behind him.

"What does that mean?" I asked.

"Well sometimes our wolf side likes to come out and play. It wants to hunt and just do what wolves do. Then after that we patrol our land to make sure no outsiders mistakenly wonder in our territory." Dad said. He looked at mom and she nodded her head. When they turned back to me dad eyes were blue and my mom's were yellow. Then it was like a white mist took form of their body and big huge wolves were in their place. Where mom was standing a few seconds ago was a big wolf with fur the color of auburn with light brown streaks in the fur and where my dad was standing a wolf with midnight black fur. I was up from my chair staring at my parents who are now wolves. Their heads were down looking at me. I went up to them slowly. I reached my hand out to touch my father. His fur was soft to the touch along with mom when I touch her fur.
