The kitchen was dead silent with no one saying a word. Dad was looking at the table and mom was looking at the stove while I was watching both to see who would answer the question.

"Before your mother died she called me, scared for her life that someone was after her. I tried to calm her down so she could tell me who was after her but she wouldn't listen. The only thing she told me was if something happened to her to keep you safe and that's what we've been doing." Mom said.

"So all this time you knew who my mother was and did not bother to tell me. Why keep the secret?" I said with tears beginning to fall. I wiped at them quickly before they were able to see.

"We didn't know how to tell you without upsetting you. We knew your mother but without us knowing who killed her we wanted to protect you. We wanted to keep the secret about your mother in case the person that killed her came back to look for you. We did it out of love and protection for you." Dad said.

"Who's my father?" I asked. The room was silent again.

"Ummm we aren't to sure about that." Dad said.

"Michael.." Mom said but dad shook his head real quickly thinking I won't see it but I did.

"You can keep your secrets, I'll find out for myself eventually." I stood up to leave.

"Gabriella we didn't have dinner yet." Mom said.

"I'm not that hungry from all the dishes I had to try for the party." I said wiping my face. I headed up stairs to my room closing the door loudly before falling on my bed. I can't believe this, they both knew her and they know my father but they aren't going to tell me. What kind of mess is that? There was a knock on my window. I turned to see Nathaniel. I opened my window to let him in.

"You know we have a front door." I said. He shrugged his shoulders.

"The window seems much easier for us to be alone to talk." He said.

"I kind of don't want to talk right now but be by myself." I said.

"Why are you crying what happened?" He asked.

"I told them that I know abut them being friends with my mother. I told them about seeing their pictures in the yearbooks. My mom just told me she talked to my mother before she died about my mother telling her that someone was after her. My mother told her to make sure I was protected. So it wasn't a coincidence that they adopted me. Of course I asked about my father but they didn't tell me so of course I know they are hiding something about him too." I said. Nathaniel was sitting on my bed at this point.

"What are you going to do?" He asked.

"What do you mean what am I going to do. I just told you my parents are hiding the fact about they knew my parents. I'm going to do exactly what I was going to do. I'll find out myself who my father was." I said.

"Alright I'll help and you know your friends will too but your birthday is tomorrow so you can't do anything about it now. Take the weekend off because once you turn, it will be hard keeping the wolf inside you." He said.

"Why would it be hard? I saw my parents turn then they were normal the next day." I said sitting next to him.

"That's because they had years of experience. You would be a new wolf so the urges to turn would be at the forefront. When I turned it was hard for me to turn back. I missed a week of school because I didn't know how to turn back. When I finally did almost everything made me mad. I failed a test I get mad, someone bump into me, my food is not right, if my brother picks on me, almost everything. So everyday I would turn and run through the woods trying to take the edge off. It wasn't until Maxwell Blackwood found me in the woods. It was because of him I was able to control my wolf." He said.
