Two weeks left until my birthday and I'm giving the invitations to my friends. I found them at our usual spot so I started heading that way but I was blocked by Brittney.

"I heard you're having a birthday party in two weeks." She said.

"I am." I told her.

"Well, it's not much of a party if you're inviting the rejects." She said with a smile.

"Well they aren't rejects to me and it's a small get together so if you were thinking that you will get an invite you are sadly mistaken because I don't think you would come to a party with rejects. You may be the most popular girl in school Brittney but it doesn't mean you would get invited to a lot of parties. Now if you excuse me I have invitations to give to my friends, the ones that would be happy to celebrate my birthday drama free." I said leaving her with her mouth opened. I walked over to my friends that were watching the whole conversation.

"Hey everyone, I'll tell you what happened between me and Britney later." I told them.

"We heard." Donovan said which earned him a hit with an elbow to his side. I sat down in front of Savannah.

"Umm no you couldn't, it just happened and it was way over there." I said to him. There's no way they could have heard that from all the way over there.

"Anyway we found out your grandfather is still alive." Spencer said.

"Why did that sound like it shocked you?" I asked.

"In court cases like these your grandfather would have gotten the death penalty but Marcus Hale got him thirty years." Savannah said.

"What's so bad about getting thirty years at least he's alive." I said.

"True but your grandfather was a respected member of the council. For him to get thirty years he had to make a deal." Trey said.

"Ok, then what was the deal." I said.

"That wasn't in the case files, someone erased that part or it was off the record." Spencer said.

"What deal could mayor Hale give my grandfather to get thirty years in prison?" I asked.

"Why don't you ask him? He's in Deadwood penitentiary." Nathaniel said. The bell rung to go to class.

"Do you plan on going to see your grandfather?" Savannah asked.

"Well yeah, all of this seems to have started with him. Maybe he can shed some light on what's going on." I told her.

"How are you going to get there. I'm pretty sure your parents aren't going to take you to see a convicted murderer." Savannah said.

"I know, can you take me." I said.

"Sorry no can do I got an F on my physics test and my parents won't let me drive the car." She said. Now who do I ask to take me?

I was sitting in biology when I realize who could take me. We were working on an experiment so now or never.

"Nathaniel I was wondering--" I started to say but he cut me off.

"Yes, I do know what you are planning to do just don't ask me while in school. There are too many people that will hear." He said.

" I don't get what you guys are talking about. We are whispering nobody's going to hear us."I said.

"Oh, you are sadly mistaken, Gabriella. Everyone hears everything." He said. That doesn't explain anything. We go back to the experiment but my thoughts were going a mile a minute. First I learn my adopted parents are from here, everyone is keeping secrets, I found my dead mother's diary where she wrote that my father was murdered and how she's also from here, and now my grandfather is in jail for murder. Is it me or is something going on in Deadwood that nobody wants me to know? When class was over I met up with Savannah for lunch.
