Kyran and I still haven't talked since our... "Fight". It's the third of November and it already getting chilly. There'll be a field trip to the Ski Resort in December.
I walked out of my house. I breathed on my hands an rubbed them together. I yawned. I glanced at Kyran's house and just remembered... Was Kyran adopted? I remember his parents having that fight. I shook my head.
No. It's not your business.
I stepped forward but a door closed and Kyran stepped out. He was in black jeans, grey sweater, a red and grey beanie, and a white scarf wrapped around his neck. He stood in front of his car. Before getting in, he looked at me and I looked away and began walking forward.
Damnit, he must've caught me.
I was already on the sidewalk when a car zoomed up. The window rolled down.
"Need a lift?" asked Kyran.
"No thank you!" I said not meeting his stare.
"It's freezing outside. You sure you don't want to get into this nice, warm car?" teased Kyran.
"I'm good." I say.
At the corner of my eye, Kyran shrugged and rolled up the window. He drove forward in fast speed.
I sighed. It really is cold...
I arrived at school just in time. I raced inside because it was getting windy. I bumped into Owen and I backed away from him. He grabbed my arm.
"Let's go somewhere else private." He whispers.
He drags me through a crowd of people and into a room... The abandoned library.
I jerk away from him and shot him a look. "What do you want?" I ask.
"Look, about Friday night I-" he stopped. "It was a mistake. I'm sorry."
I looked at him for a couple more minutes. I gave up. "Just don't do that again... Owen Johnson."
He nodded. He walked past me and out the door. I let out a soft sigh. I went to the pile of books and remembered that this is where I met Kyran.
I walked around the pile and saw a paper that was burnt on one corner. I picked it up.
I'm sorry for what I did in sixth grade. I'm sorry for bullying you. I'm sorry for not helping you... I know you'll probably never forgive me but, I'm sorry for pretending to not remember you. I remember everything clearly when I met you again in sixth grade. I'm sorry for not being a friend.
-Kyran K.
I was speechless. He remembered everything but bullied me. I leaned against the wall and covered my eyes. The memories of him came back. Our first meeting in sixth grade...
Through my school years and into sixth grade, I was never bullied. Everywhere I went, people stayed away from me. If I appear in the girls' bathroom - all of the girls will run out screaming. On my first day, I was siting alone on one table. All of the students were terrified. So everyday, I eat alone in a bathroom stall. In classes, students will move their desks away from me. Until in November, he came along to make it worse.
"Now, now! Class is going to begin!" hollered the teacher, Mr. Paul.
The students quiet down and sat in their seats. Mr. Paul looked at us then said, "Today, we have a new student."
The class burst into gasps.
"Is it a girl?" yelled one kid.
"Is he hot?" yelled one girl.
The class laughs but I didn't. Mr. Paul shook his head. "Listen up! He's a new kid so go easy on him, alright? Come in!"
The door opened and steps went to the front of the class. I didn't look because I was looking outside the window. I honestly couldn't care less.
"Hello everyone, my name is Kyran Knight."
Kyran.
I haven't heard that name in a long time and it echoed in my head. I snapped my head to the front and it really is him. He got taller and looked more mature.
All of the girls whispered and beamed. I looked away and Kyran sat in the desk at the corner of the classroom.
I didn't have the courage to walk up to him. The day went as usual but when the last bell rang, students grabbed their stuff and ran out of the school. I forgot my book in one class so I fetched for it. Once I got in, Kyran was there. We looked at each other but I turned away and grabbed my book quickly.
"Hey, you're that Half everyone's telling me about, right?" spoke Kyran.
I turned to look at him. "So what?" I say.
He shook his head as he chuckled. "Nothing... Just pathetic."
"E-excuse me?" I say astonished. "Do... You not remember me?" I say slowly.
He laughed. "Why would I? I've never seen your monster face before."
That hit me. He doesn't remember me and I made a foolish choice. A choice of what, though? That I thought he was going to be like, "Oh! I remember you." How pathetic of me.
I ran out of that room.
The next day, he started to bully me. Throwing something at me, giving me the monster nickname, treating me like trash... And soon, everyone began to chime in. They weren't afraid of me anymore, they wanted me to die. He was the one to start the bullying trend on me. He started it.
I left in December after a field trip. I never got smile in front of him like he said when we last met at the playground.
The day went as usual. Kyran and I met a couple of times but didn't speak. We see each other in the hallways but ignore each other. I forgave him, but he doesn't need to know. I think it's better... To be distanced like this.
When the last bell rang, I was the first one out. I walked down the steps and came to a stop when a car slowed in front of me. A person got out. He was dressed in a black suit and black shades. He opened the backseat door.
"Madam Luna would like to speak to you." He said.
Jurian's step-mother? What does she want?
