Hide pov
Today was special. It was my girl friend , of six months, birthday. I had planned a party for her at Anteiku. I just had to get her here, she's not that fond of coffee. I looked at my best friend Kaneki who was wiping down the tables to get ready for the party.
"Are you sure about this Hide?" he asks.
"I'm positive. She loves surprises." I say smiling at him.
You're pov
Today is the worst day of the year for me. Today is my birthday. I sigh as I pick up an old family photo I had framed by my bed. Tears prickled at the corners of my eyes as I remembered the day. Today five years ago my parents were killed by ghouls, I was forced to watch as they were killed and... eaten. The only reason I'm here now is because two men from the CCG came to my rescue.
I wipe the stray tears from my eyes and place the picture back on the table. I stand up and walk over to my closet to pick out my clothes for the day. I grab a gray shirt and black skinny jeans, I walk into the bathroom and change. I pull my hair up into a ponytail (or whatever style you want) and pull on some gray shoes. I don't normally wear this much dark clothes in one day, but today is my only acceptation.
I walk out of the bathroom and head back into my room. I grab my phone off the table and put it in my back pocket then grab my house keys. I walk into the living room and hear a knock on the front door. I walk over and open my door, there stood Hide.
"Hey babe... uh what's with the dark clothes?" he asks.
"I'm not really in a good mood today." I say. I haven't had the will power to tell Hide about what happened today all those years ago.
"Oh I'm sorry, but I have just the thing to make you feel better!" he says happily as he grabs my wrist and drags me out of the house and onto the porch. I smile a bit, but make him stop so I can close the front door. He continues to drag me down the street until we get to Anteiku. We stop outside the little café, Hide holds into my shoulders.
"What are we going here Hide?" I ask. He smiles at me.
"Close your eyes. It's a surprise." he says. I laugh a little at him, he always likes to surprise me. I close my eyes and he leads me into the café. He stops me then lets go and walks around so he's standing on front of me. "Okay... open your eyes." he says. I open my eyes to see the whole place decorated with balloons and streamers of my favorite color, white and (F/C) table clothes, and a banner that read 'Happy Birthday (Y/N)' on it.
The tears welled up in my eyes again as the memories flashed through my mind. My heart hurt so much that I started crying, I saw Hide's face turn to one of concern. The door opened from behind me and my best friend (BFF/N) walked in.
"Oh no. (Y/N) are you okay?" she asks. I turn on my heels and ran out the door as Hide and (BFF/N) called for me to come back.

I watched as (Y/N) ran out of the café. I thought she would've loved this. Kaneki place his hand on my shoulder. I sigh and ran a hand through my hair.
"Why did she run off?" I ask to really no one.
"You don't know?" asked (BFF/N). I look at her and shake my head. "Five years ago today her parents were killed by ghouls. She could've died if it weren't for the CCG that saved her." she says. I was shocked. She never told me that before, but I understood why she didn't. It was probably really hard for her to talk about it.
"I'm an idiot." I say grabbing a handful of hair. I ran out the door and down the street back to her house. I ran up on the porch and knocked on the door. No answer, I tried to open the door, but it was locked. I looked under the welcome mat to find the spare key, I looked in the little box by the door I couldn't find it. I finally looked on top of the door frame and found it, I unlocked the door then put the key back in it's place.
I opened the door and walk towards (Y/N)'s bedroom. I slowly opened her door and saw her under her covers crying into her pillow. I walked around to the other side of her bed and laid down beside of her. I hug her close and rub her back.
"I'm sorry sweetheart. I didn't know today was so bad for you." I say trying to comfort her. She had calmed down a bit, but she still sniffled.
"It... wasn't your fault. I... should've told you." she says trying to burry her face further into my chest.
"I understand why you couldn't."
"What you did was really sweet Hide. Maybe... maybe I need to replace the bad memories with good ones." she says looking up at me with her (E/C) eyes. I smile at her and kiss her nose making her scrunch it up. I laugh at her for doing that.
"Yeah. Forget about the bad past events, live in the now." I say. She leans up and kisses me quickly then lays her head on my chest and yawns. I lay down flat and pull he close and started feeling tired as well. Soon we fall asleep. I think this is the start of her future happy birthdays.
