Cecil and I watched with amusement as his Royal Idiot and the Shadow Queen trotted back down the stairs with haste. A meeting, they say? It was probably just an excuse for them to go necking in a closet. That is a truly terrible idea. Please don’t give Alice any more ideas. I jumped slightly at the voice, before remembering that Ironfang was still in my mind. My name isn’t actually Ironfang. And Starfire isn’t really called Starfire either.
“Then what is your name?” I asked, hands in my pockets. “Wait, hold that thought.” I scrambled to pull out a scroll, before skimming through the text. “Let me guess. You guys have your human forms, and your human names.”
“Gosh, you are so much smarter than Alistair.” Cecil piped in, grinning from ear to ear. “I’ve been dropping hints for years, but the dumbo still doesn’t get it. Typical.”
“Wait. You’re a dragon too?” I whispered in awe and shock. “I thought you were just a regular guard and clichéd best friend of the Prince and stuff!”
Oh, I wish. This voice wasn’t Ironfang’s. It was more feminine, higher pitched than the usual gravelly voice I was familiar to. Hello to you too, Terris.
“I didn’t read anywhere about fire dragons being psychics as well.” I grumbled. “Hi, Starfire. Or, whatever your name is.”
Adara isn’t a psychic. I’m projecting her voice into your mind. Gavin said, sounding a little grumpy. And yes, Starfire isn’t her real name, but it was an excellent choice of name. Her name is Adara. Queen Adara Firedrake. You’ve met her brother as well, Prince Cecil Firedrake.
“You two are siblings? Are you serious?” I said, looking at the two of them. But after they had said that, I did see the similarities. The playful fire in Cecil’s green eyes were identical to Starfire, or Adara’s violet ones. “Wait, then why does Adara have magenta eyes instead of green ones like yours? Siblings usually share the same physical traits, do they not?”
“If you haven’t noticed, Adara is slightly, uh, peculiar.” Cecil muttered helpfully.
I heard another snort in my head. Peculiar my ass. I’m fabulous.
“She’s what we like to call an oddball.” Cecil smirked.
You’re just making a gross name for a genetic mutation. An unstable DNA structure that made me more powerful than you. You’re just jealous.
“You’re just showing off.” Cecil huffed, turning away from his apparent sister.
“If you’re the Queen, and you’re the Prince, what are you doing roasting guard’s heads off up here in Lukar? Don’t you have your own kingdom to rule?” I asked again. The atmosphere suddenly tensed, and I looked around. “Did I say something wrong?”
Why do you think the kingdoms outside have started to grow silent? Or why your father decided to take a sudden leave? Flarenn was destroyed, and so was Silverra, the two greatest dragon kingdoms. Qamaras, the land of the night dragons, was destroyed soon after, and so was Sarken. We soon-
“Wait, stop right there.” I took out my scroll and found a nice shady spot under Adara’s wing to sit. Taking out a quill, I nodded at him. “Okay, continue.”
We soon realized that the dragons were being hunted down to extinction, in both our human and dragon forms. And once the dragon form dies, the human form dies as well. The silvers, my people, were massacred. The fires and shimmers escaped, and the remaining nights and silvers fled to Terrande, the land of the earth dragons, and the dragon fort that no one can penetrate. But somehow, a warlock slipped through our defences. He was so small, no one noticed him, and he killed my family, the last of the silvers. The silver dragon spat out. His violet eyes were burning with a dark fire, the only sign of the rage burning inside him. I wouldn't want to be on his bad side
