Even while we were flying back to the others, namely Kia, Alistair, Dagen and Cole, Adara was still squealing about how cute Dante and I were together. Can I be godmother of your future babies? Think about how adorable they would be, with your pale-ish skin, black hair, and those dark, dark eyes of his... She clicked happily.
If dragons could swoon mid-flight, she did, almost sending us both plummeting to the ground. I yelped, whacking her on the back and burning my hand. I hissed. "Concentrate, Adara! And please don't squeal over him! He's almost ten years younger than you! Hell, I'm ten years younger!"
Gee, thanks, Terris, I feel old now.
I snorted at her comment. "What do you mean, feel old? You are old." She pulled a three-sixty in mid-air, but thankfully I was prepared. I held on tight, stomach lurching a bit. "Do you need some ice for that burn, Adara?"
She shook her scaled head bemusedly. I'm a fire dragon. First, I can't be burned, second, I hate ice. Ice is only good with drinks on a hot day, or when I'm having a fever. Which is incredibly rare, by the way.
"Whatever." I said dismissively. Adara grunted, zooming forward. "Hey, how far are we from the Rock House? I don't see the others." The fire dragon circled around the area. True to my word, there was nobody where we had left them. "Where'd they go?" There was no trace that they were here.
Adara landed. Let me concentrate. She closed her eyes, sniffing around with her snout.
"What in Drakon are you doing?"
Shh, be quiet. I'm sensing some heat signatures. I think they're inside. Yeah, they should be inside. Dagen never liked the sun. He said it was too warm. But again, he's a night dragon.
I snickered at Adara's rambling. "Are they in any particular room?"
I think they're all gathered in the biggest guest room. I can sense a Gavin-sized heat blob. I don't know if they've done any renovation, but last time I was here, it was one floor up. Adara stopped sniffing. Okay, now help me untie my dress. It's tied to my leg. She stuck one of her back legs out. It was quite ingenious, really- if you were a dragon who brought a spare change of clothes everywhere, then there'd be no problems with changing forms, and there'd be no circumstances where you'd shift into human form, and end up stark naked. I handed Adara's dress to her. Now gimme some privacy. I sighed, turning around.
"Are you done?" I huffed impatiently.
Patience, Terris! Adara clicked and snorted. "Okay, I'm done. Off to Gavin's room?"
A smirk came onto my face. "Actually, let's break in through the window. That'll give him enough of a shock. Anémos!" Instantly, I jetted upwards, leaving Adara at the bottom. The window was open, giving me the perfect opportunity to surprise him. "Boo-"
"Shh!" It turned out that it wasn't only Gavin inside. Cole was sat on the edge of bed. Gavin was asleep and drooling, saliva dribbling onto his pillow. It was a hilarious sight, and I made sure to use it as blackmail. Celeste had plopped herself on an armchair. Wait, Celeste? Where did she come from? And then I spotted the shimmers. One was a boy and the other was a girl.
"Terris, these are Ciana and Lucas. You should know Ciana, and Lucas is her friend. They brought Celeste along." Cole whispered. "Please be quiet. Waking a dragon is never a good idea, especially not silvers."
I swivelled around. Sat on the couch was a boy and a girl- the girl had long black hair tied back in a braid, with her head lying on the boy's shoulder. The boy had a mop of messy brown hair, and his arm was wrapped around the girl's waist. No doubt were those Alistair and Kia. Alistair's chest rose and fell, clearly he was breathing. Anger and frustration bubbled deep within me.
Celeste made a heart with her hands. "They're so cute!" She whispered loudly. "I'm so happy for Alistair. He's been mooning over her for ages. I'm glad they're finally together."
"Why did nobody tell me Alistair brought himself back?" I whispered harshly. Why did nobody tell me Celeste was here? I looked away and spotted something silver, violet and blue. Looking closer, I realized it was the crown of Silverra. "Why did nobody tell me that dumb crown was here too? I went all the way to the heart of Terrande only to discover it was missing, and I went to the Silverran castle and got attacked by mania! I almost died! And nobody told me it was here?"
I heard a grunt, and a pair of emerald green eyes stared back at me. Alistair was wide awake. "In our defense, Cecil's not here, and we don't have another fire dragon around, since you took Adara." I stared at him, confused. What did Cecil have to do about this? "Kia told me what might've happened to him." He explained quickly. "Fire dragons have super speed, right? They could act as messengers, I suppose."
Cole nodded. "That's true-"
"Am I late?" A loud, green and red blur burst through the door into the room. Adara looked a bit like a Christmas tree, if I was honest. The only thing she was missing were sparkly lights.
"Ahhh! What? Who? Where?" Gavin shrieked and darted up from his position on the bed. His face was smushed to one side, like a basset hound. His violet eyes were wide and fearful. I heard a crashing sound. It was the crown, falling to the floor. "Oh! Terris! Adara! I didn't knew you guys came back." He wiped his mouth with his hand bashfully, looking around. "Hey, where did Dagen go?"
Cole snickered. "He talked you and Kia to sleep, and he went to the loo." The blonde prince stared at the clock and cursed under his breath. "What the...? It's been fifteen minutes! What is taking him so long? I'm gonna go check on him." With an angry huff, Cole stormed out of the room. I resisted the urge to smirk. Obviously, my invention I had used earlier on Dagen had worked wonders.
"Well, that was eventful." Gavin rubbed his eyes sleepily. "Now what?"
I grinned. "I've got a new invention. Anyone willing to be my test subject?" It wasn't much, but it would still be hilarious to try it out. I glanced towards Kia and Alistair. They would make perfect guinea pigs!
No. Don't even think about it. Gavin warned, glaring at me. My little invention wasn't that bad. I was just trying to discover my roots- it was just a little something to help me change the states of people.
"Don't. Even. Think. About. It." Alistair growled through gritted teeth. I decided to ignore him, throwing another invention his way- I had found a chemical that could turn whatever it was poured on invisible. I managed to turn it into a net, which I could grow and shrink at will. He disappeared from sight with a yelp.
Gavin raised an eyebrow. "Did you really have to do that?"
I nodded. "Hey, what can I say? It could come in handy in the future."
I heard a crash and a scream. "Oh my gods I'm so sorry-"
"TERESA HUNTER!" Kia shrieked. It seemed like the princess was awake. Her eye twitched.
"You're pretty screwed." The shimmer dragon boy- what was his name, Lucas?- tried to hide a smile.
"Like we totally didn't know that, Captain Obvious." Ciana sighed.
"He is right." Kia grunted. She glared at me, and I found myself hovering in midair. Twisting her fingers a little, I dangled upside down. "Terris, we need to talk."
Gavin nodded. "Hey, speaking of talking, I need to talk to Alistair in private."
The warlock prince finally managed to wriggle his way out of the invisibility net. "Oh crud. It's the 'take care of Kia or I'll chop your balls off' talk, isn't it?"
Gavin grinned. "Yup."
I wished Alistair the best of luck, because he almost definitely needed it.
