PROLOGUE - COMPLICATED LIFE

"Are you sure you want to do this Dev" asked Misha, handing over the papers that Dev had asked her to prepare.
"I have never been surer than this in my life Misha" answered Dev
"But Sir, why this sudden decision and I guess you do understand the kind of mess it's going to create in everyone's life" queried Tina, a bit tentatively.
"Aren't the lives already messed up Tina" chuckled Dev "All I am trying to do is sort it and make everyone's life simpler, happier and easier. As far as the decision is concerned, it's not a sudden one, in fact I have not been thinking of anything else apart from this over the last 4 months right from the time I came to know about Suhana" replied Dev, his eyes tearing up.
"But what about you Dev, are you going to be happy? And do you really believe others are going to be happy?" asked Misha
"I agree initially it will be difficult for everyone but as they say "time is a great healer" and I am sure with time everything will become fine and regarding my happiness I believe I lost all the rights to be happy the day I separated from Sonakshi and said all those hurtful words to her 7 years back" countered Dev, his tone sad and regretful, the tears which were now unabashed wetting his shirt as he remembered his words.
"Sir, why do you still blame yourself for what happened 7 years back when you know everything that conspired back then. Please talk to Dr.Bose once and try to explain all that happened, I am sure she will understand" requested Tina.
"There's nothing left to talk Tina, I can never regain the trust that she had on me and one thing that I have learnt is that any relationship without trust cannot survive. Even if Sonakshi understands which I am sure she would for I have never seen anyone so kind hearted but I can never look into her eyes after the way she has suffered over the last 7 years because of me" replied Dev.
"Is she the only one who has suffered Dev? We have seen what you have gone through please for once listen to us or at least listen to what your heart wants" said a hopeful Misha
"No Misha, I have all along listened to my heart and the situation each one of us is in is there for everyone to see. It's time that some of the decisions be taken with respect to what the mind says, and as far as suffering I can never imagine what Sonakshi and her family had to go through just because I could not stand up for her, I wish even my enemies do not go through that" answered Dev in a firm tone.
"What about Suhana & Golu, why should the little ones suffer in all this" said Misha hoping that the talk of the little kids would at least make him think over his decision.
"Suhana & Golu will understand Misha, probably not right away but definitely with time they will understand that I am not a Superman as they think, in fact I am sure once they know the struggles Sonakshi had to through because of me they will be happy about my decision" said Dev
"Enough Dev!! Stop blaming yourself, whatever happened 7 years ago was because of the situations which were not in your control" retorted an agitated Misha
"I agree Misha, nothing was in my control and don't we make situations on our own. My silence and unwavering trust on my Mother costed me the only relation I wanted for myself and in doing so I broke the trust of the person who loved me the most, this is my repentance for it. I know in short term this decision would hurt them but in the long run this is the best for everyone" said Dev firmly
"Looks like you have made your decision, fine what do you want us to do" asked Misha in a defeated tone
"Well, I have signed the papers. I hope you both know what needs to be done tomorrow once these are authorized by the court" asked Dev
"Yes Sir" replied Tina observing that Misha was teary eyed and could not see her dear friend suffering.
Dev got up from his seat and made Misha sit on the couch. He handed her a glass of water and signaled Tina to come and occupy the chair placed near the couch.
Placing a comforting hand on Misha's shoulder Dev said "Misha, You and Tina have been my support system apart from Golu & Ranveer in the past 7 years. Though we had started on a professional front but you both have been my close confidants and words cannot express how thankful I am to both of you. I need you both to trust our friendship and please help me one last time. I understand that you both are concerned about me but if so many lives are changed in a better way with this one decision then don't you think it will be selfish of me to not take it".
"Moreover in all this why should Suhana suffer, whenever I look at her eyes I see hope in them, hope that her parents will re-unite and that's what scares me the most. The day she realizes this is never possible she will be shattered and I cannot see her in the same pain that I had seen in Sonakshi's eyes, do you think it will be fair on her to go through the emotional trauma that her parents have gone through?"
Misha could not take it anymore and hugged Dev crying her heart out. Once she was back in control Dev said "Hey, You spoiled my favorite shirt with your tears" immediately receiving a friendly whack from Misha as Tina looked on, she could not still completely understand why her boss was taking such a decision. But one thing she knew and that was to support him unconditionally as in her heart she knew what a good human being he was.
Both Misha and Tina got up to leave as Dev said "Please make sure no one knows about this" as both of them nodded. "And Misha, please ask Ranveer to be at home today evening I want to discuss somethings with all three of you today evening"added Dev
As they made their way out, Dev looked at their retreating figures and smiled. His thoughts went back to the day when he met Misha Rastogi, a budding lawyer for the first time in his office to discuss the legal formalities regarding one of the new Venture he was starting, what started as a professional relationship slowly grew into a close friendship over there common love for Black coffee. And then Tina Ahuja, his secretary who turned into a close friend especially at a time when he was at his lowest after the break-up. Though she was not a part of Ishwari Communications anymore but the mutual respect that she and her boss shared resulted in Dev offering her to manage the NGO that he had started.
His mind went back to the conversation he just had with both of them regarding the decision that he had made. Even though in his heart he knew that it will change many lives but in a better way and hopefully untangle their "Complicated Life".
