Alex's POV

Agitation ratcheted higher as I stared back at Ashton and waited for his reaction. Anxiety crawled beneath my skin, hate and fear and this sense of fading hope overwhelmed my body as I stood there waiting for his punch, waiting for his fist to collide with my jaw or maybe my stomach, because well, you never know. Let's just hope he won't go for Alex junior, that damage can't be easily fixed, I tell you.

He scrunched his eyebrows and took one step forward, I immediately took one backward, "What do you mean Nikolas have them?"

Roman cursed something under his breath, "He's doing this to get back on us, isn't he?" He hissed.

I turned and shot him a glare. Thanks for the help dude.

"Get back on what?" Ashton asked making me face him again, his eyes bored into mine, his tight jaw didn't help much.

I swallowed as I scratched the back of my neck, "I killed one of his men, I have his sister, he wants to get even." I mumbled lowly hoping he won't hear me, but when his eyes grew wide, I knew he did. F-ck.

He stilled after as if trying to let it all in, confusion emanated from him in waves. When it finally sunk in, he raked an uneasy hand through his hair and his gaze drifted away. He gritted his teeth and hissed something before he turned around and simply left the house.

My eyes widened, he didn't hit me, weird.

"Where the fuck you're going?" I said as I jogged behind him but that didn't stop him. He reached his car and opened the door ready to get in. I placed my hand on his shoulder stopping him as I asked again, "Where the hell you think you're going?"

He shrugged it off and turned to me; anger and fear reflected off his eyes, "To get my wife and son back." He said through gritted teeth before he tried to get into the car but I stopped him again, my lips curled up in annoyance, "What do you think you gonna do? Tell the police?" My eyebrow raised, "You really think that's gonna help!"

Frustrated air puffed from his nose, he clenched his jaw and shook his head, "I don't know!" He snapped in bewilderment. He pushed himself away from me and took few steps backward, he grabbed the back of his head as if to suppress it all back inside.

Swallowing down the lump wedged in my throat, many thoughts tumbled around in my head, Nikolas's words rang in my ears kicking me off the edge, once again.

You killed one, I'll kill one. I only play fair.

Guild grabbed me by the throat and my bones trembled with reality.

What if he actually meant it?

No. Fuck no. It can't be.

I couldn't allow myself to dwell on that thought, I couldn't take it as an option.

Tension thickened the crisp fall air, it was silent except for the heavy breaths that pushed in and out of Ashton's lungs. I clung to the anger that brimmed within my chest and spat out, "I told you to f-cking leave! I told you someone will get hurt, why didn't you just listen to me?"

He released a weighted sigh and rubbed his eyes, he settled them back on me and answered, "Katherine didn't want to leave you alone-" His voice was low, the anger was slowly fading from his eyes, he shook his head, "She was worried about you."

I curled my hand into a fist, my nails digging into the inside of my palm as I tried to get a grip on all the dark thoughts coursing my mind. The anger mixed with pain and suddenly, I just wanted to scream. If Nikolas dares to hurt one of them, oh god, I don't even know where to start with him. How to rip him apart, tear him into pieces, inject him with all the pain he made me go through for the past two years.
