MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL!

Here is your Christmas present. A chapter lol xD

BTW it made me laugh when you all though it's Nikolas who got shot, I mean come on, would Cara be that devastated if it's Nikolas. And if you think I'll let him die as the hero, well then you have no idea where this story is going *evil smirk*

Shorter chapter than usual, but from now on, chapters will be shorter but I will update more frequently, I really need to finish this story before my finals, let's hope so.

Alex's POV

It all happened too fast.

Too fast for me to get a grip on.

I didn't understand how I pulled my gun and ran out of the room or how even Nikolas followed my steps. But Maxwell seemed to understand my father's motives before us as he was the first to leave the room.

I heard the gunshot before I saw who fired it.

Then another one; The sound bounced off the walls and felt like it shook the whole house.

Fear grabbed me by the throat and every cell in my body tightened at the dark thoughts that coursed through my head.

Then, I saw him, one of my father's guys.

I didn't think, I didn't hesitate, I immediately aimed and fired making a bullet go right through his chest. Another bullet came from my side and hit him right in the head, jerking his body backward before he fell dead on the ground.

A harsh breath pushed its way out of my chest yet it didn't ease any of the tightness that wrapped around my lungs. My gaze shifted to Nikolas just right by my side; I didn't allow myself to dwell on the thought of why he fired the second bullet, or why he looked so damn worried and concerned.

I didn't because right at that moment, her broken pained scream penetrated through my ears, ripped through the ache in my brain and broke something in my chest.

Turning my head to the other side, I saw it.

I saw the destruction my father just did, the mistake he could never outrun, the blood he just spilled, the life he may have stolen, to see the - war he just started.

An injured cry erupted from her throat as she clutched at him. I pressed my eyes shut as I realized that.. we were late.

We were so damn late.

Cara's POV

The sight that beheld me stole my breath and sucked all the air from my lungs. Agony shuttered my inside as I sank by his side, too weak to stand still on my feet.

I shook my head, "No-" A broken whisper escaped my lips, I hiccupped a sob as I said, "Dad!"

He made a sound at the back of his throat, a pained groan as he pressed his eyes shut. He placed his weight on his elbow as he tried to sit down but failed. My hands were shaking as I tried to help him, my whole body was shaking only at the sight of blood that wrapped itself around his shirt as a second color.

A hole hallowed out inside my chest as I took a grip on the whole situation. These bullets should've gone through me, it was supposed to be me, not... not him.

He pressed the back of his head against the wall and his face twisted in pain. I shakily brought my hand to his face, to get him to open his eyes, to look at me, to tell me that he is okay, that he is stronger than this, that he'll make it out of this.. because he is my dad, my father, and fathers are always strong, right?
