"New Year, New Me."
New Years resolutions not really in full effect. Denise's time management hasn't improved, but at least she's doing her homework the night before it's due and not the day of. Even though she had a whole week to do it...
She barely conversed with Rodney and Kendrick—which is a shock to them that she is being so quiet. Kendrick stuffed his hand in the popcorn bag and grabbed a handful before stuffing a few into his mouth, and Rodney drank his apple juice suspiciously.
They didn't know whether to ask her if she's okay or should they enjoy the silence. With Gina on the way back from her track meet, they both knew good and well Denise wouldn't be able to contain herself when Gina takes a seat at the table.
I'm sure they'll probably have something to talk about—Rodney thought to himself.
Their dinner date at the cafe, a regular on their schedule, usually goes two ways. If the foursome is together it results in a nice lighthearted conversation or heated argument, either way Denise is rushing to finish some type of assignment and sometimes Kendrick is studying or getting a head start on something. Rodney of course does not bring homework to the dinner table. In his words: why would I stress myself while I'm trying to eat? Gina is just chill, rambles about how sleepy she is...
"Hey love bugs." Gina says in a monotone, as she takes her seat next to Denise. She lets her sports bag sit in the floor as she sighs.
"How was your meet?" Kendrick asked.
She smiled and unzipped her jacket, revealing her gold medal. "First place in my 300 baby, and I pr'd." She cheesed extra hard.
"Oh my stars!' Denise dropped her pencil. "Gina, when did you get here!? I have so much to tell you..." She takes off her headphones.
"Ouch. So you're not excited to talk to us?" Rodney asks, a tone filled with sarcasm.
"Right, you haven't talked to us whatsoever and it's been like ten minutes." Kendrick butts in.
Denise rolls her eyes. "Well Gina is my best friend."
"No she's mine." Kendrick retorts.
"No, Gina tell him." Denise nudges her.
"Yeah, Gina tell me." Kendrick stared at her.
Rodney shakes his head. "Are we all not best friends?"
"Yeah, you my bro and all. But Gina's my ultimate best friend."
He pauses."That's crazy." Rodney says. "Last year we weren't all as close as we are now." He paused again, as he ponders into the memories. "I'm surprised me and Gina got close, I knew I was gonna be close with Denise and obviously you." He nudges Kendrick. "But I got close to Denise before I got close to Gina, and that was only because—"
"Y'all both some druggies." Kendrick interrupted.
Kendrick and Gina laugh, as Rodney chuckles and utters out 'fuck you' and Denise is straight facing him the entire while.
