"If interdimensional travel is that easy to accidentally do, then why not use magic to increase the barriers instead of killing on site without identification?" The question slipped out of my mouth. I had planned on holding my tongue and asking Cadeth later, but I just couldn't believe such a problem was so common nor easy.

"The magic level needed would mutilate any Were that do it Selese." Cadeth responded, matter of fact. I hadn't thought of that.

Alpha Everett jumped in, commenting, "It is rare for any creature to be without identification." My eyes dashed in his general direction. Looking at him from his chest to his face. Showing respect, but giving away I view us as equals. Regardless of him being an Alpha and I an Omega or a Queen. My response came in a tone matching that feeling.

Calm, I stated, "Yes, except children..." Cadeth tapped his hand against the table.

Quickly rebutting, "We hold children." My words spilled out just as fast.

"Only on the northern entrance, the southern entrance does not. Am I correct Alpha Everett?" I looked over at Alpha Everett as I questioned him.

Alpha Everett answered, "Indeed Queen Selese, but alas you've never had a young lycaetos or dragon accidentally land in your realm and kill your own kind, before even being able to contain them. Death results in fewer casualties on our side." I could see what looked to be a sparkle in his eyes. Twinkling like a star. Was it a spark of madness, depression, or joy, I do not know. This conversation was taking a dark turn. I was fully ready to embrace it, if it meant trying to prevent deaths of the innocent.

I questioned further, "Still, is it moral?" Cadeth's hand touched my shoulder, resting there. Supporting me.

He commented, "Our soldiers agree to put their lives on the line for guarding the entrances, a child does not enter our realm with the intent to kill nor be killed." Alpha Everett made a light coughing noise, almost coming off as sounding like a scoff.

"I don't care for morals, but his highness makes a point, our guards do agree to put their lives first. And they bleed more which is great for keeping the other guards on their toes."

At Alpha Everett's words, Cadeth glanced over at me. His hand still held my shoulder with a gentle warmth. I made a barely noticeable nod in his direction. Lifting one of my hand's off of the table and using it to rub the side of my cheek. Helping to hold my facial expressions better. Keep the conversation going, hopefully with more progress by the end.

Rei was at the door completely still, eyes on the wall across from us. Her ability to hold form without any reassurance had me feeling a little ashamed of myself. I could handle it better if I practice more. My mind shifted back to the conversation. A question popped up that I felt wouldn't offend when asking the light forest Alpha.

"Is blood particularly important Alpha Everett?" My tone was perfect, hiding my discomfort.

Alpha Everett responded with a slight uptick in his pitch, "It increases the strength of our magic, Queen."

"As well as the damage." Cadeth corrected, shooting a look at Alpha Everett. Alpha Everett sighed, his hands pointing to the ceiling.

"All things have a cost." He spat.

I tried to keep the conversation going, "An emotional cost as well. It hurts more than any physical pain to see a life end." The memory drifted in the back of my mind.

"Yes." Both Alpha Everett and Cadeth agreed in unison. My skin crawled at the eeriness of it. Alpha Everett had looked away as he spoke, his aura flashing black again for a moment. Cadeth just looked at Alpha Everett with an intense stare. His grip on my shoulder getting tighter.

I was about to move my hand up to touch Cadeth's when Cadeth spoke out.

"Don't." His hand left my shoulder as well. Instead in front of me gripping Alpha Everett's. I hadn't even noticed the movement Alpha Everett had made. How much closer he had gotten.

Alpha Everett joked, "Just wanted to see what it was like." Then he slid his hand out of Cadeth's grip. Bringing it close to his chest. His eyes sparkled again. That strange shimmer. It reminded me of my father's eyes.

It was quiet for a while. I didn't know what to say or do. Cadeth just stared at Alpha Everett. Not even blinking.

Suddenly Alpha Everett got up. He waved goodbye, not saying a word, and left. The door closing behind him with a gentle click.

I turned to Cadeth commenting, "I hope we didn't upset him." His eyes held a strong glare. I could see his hands tensing. I didn't understand what was going on. I just knew it wasn't good. A flash of yellow covered Cadeth's aura like a bright sun, then green, then back to nothing. In his usual firm voice, he spoke.

"Sorry."

It was then I felt a sting of regret for coming to this meeting. I let obligation outweigh feelings, but at the obvious stress it put on Cadeth, I don't think I should have. All I could do though was give a nod. I need to get a better handle on Alpha Everett, and those like him, so Cadeth doesn't worry like this.

I'll go to the library and read up more.
