I watch quietly as the last maid closes the door. Shutting off the light. Leaving me on the hard wood surface with a blanket gently tucked over me. Blood is already seeping into it from the endeavors of earlier that day. The chains wrapped around my hands and ankles burn lightly with each slow intake of breath. It's just me and the darkness now.
I can finally put my plan into action.
I close my eyes, bite on my inner mouth like I'd been doing all day, then begin. Pressing my hands and ankles as forcefully as I can against the chains. First outward, then quickly rushed inward. As far as the chains will go. I can feel the flesh and bones burning to oblivion. Hurting so much. No less painful than continuously throwing acid on oneself.
But it was the only way I could escape.
At the remembrance, I hold in a scream while forcing my skin against the chains again and again. I do this until I can' t feel anything anymore there. After what felt like forever, I don't. My eyes wander down, but because of the darkness I can't see. Though I already know. There's no skin left there. Just a red and black charred mess. It would take so long to heal, but that was the point. If I felt nothing until then, I could more easily do it. Faster. Time was of essence. I needed to break the bones quick to force them out of the chains.
With another attempt of holding in all the breath I could, I break my hands first. With an expert level of skill. Anticipating the exact way the sharp snap will sting. Holding every sound but the miniscule yet barely loud crack sounds that echoed only near the bed in the room.
Who knew getting so many limb breaking beatings throughout my life on earth would ever be what lets me save myself now?
A dry chuckle escapes me. I slip my broken hands out of the chains.
I then work quickly to break my ankle so that I may slip my feet out too. I press the heal in, just enough to shove into the chain. It burns the part not previously touched. I close my eyes, and think of Cadeth and his stern stare, holding in more agony while the skin and flesh start to disappear with the pressure. Finally, enough is burned off to shove it through, only breaking as minimal of the front of the ankle and back as possible. This would still keep it somewhat functional. I couldn't risk tripping and I don't know how far I would need to run.
I spit out some blood that has accumulated in my mouth, imagining Cadeth's face one more time, then grit my teeth as I push the limb through.
A small yelp manages to slip out. I wait. No one comes. My focus goes back to the other foot, and I repeat the same actions.
This time with greater success. Not even a sound comes out. But now the images of Cadeth's face are so pressed into my current state of thought that it just stays there, looming in the back of my mind.
Now it's time for part B. To the door.
I dash over to it, not in as much pain as I expected from the broken limbs. It's more of an ache now, which normally doesn't happen for me until later. I guess being in Devaleon may have expedited my healing? Or could it be the fight or flight which is screaming at me to get out of here?
Though I'm always in fight or flight mode... so it must be something else.
The door feels plain, like cold simple metal. The knob is round in shape with a small entrance for a lock. I can't use magic to unlock it, so I'll need to do something else. I grab the knob, and very slow I twist it, just to hear how the lock sounds when its pressed on. Feel the durability of the knob. Twisting slow and in a clockward motion.
Click!
It opened? No sounds of guards or anything could be heard.
I carefully further push open the door. I look to my left and right.
Two men stand at the door.
They turn to me, whispering.
"I knew it! You owe me five Chu.. I mean, Queen, we cannot help you or it'll be our heads, so just run and we'll give you a thirty second start!"
The other guard shoots a glare at his comrade before whispering back, "Hurry my Queen! Please!" Shoving a small lock pic into my hand. I didn't know whether I could trust them or this, but it felt almost as if they had prepared or maybe planned this? I guess they have more faith in me than they do their boss.
That's reassuring.
I hide the pic under my tongue and start running. Fast as my feet will carry me.
Dodging past hall after hall, turning with a slight skid at my own speed. There are little to no doors and most of the doors are smaller like room doors. So I ignore them, not wanting to risk opening the wrong one. After a couple more turns, and my thirty seconds just beyond up, I find it. The only door slightly larger than the rest, in fact it's a set of double doors. This must be it. I push through and it breaks open with ease.
Suddenly I start hearing the pounding of boots. With the night sky bare to my eyes and the grass cutting at my already damaged feet, I take off like an antelope running from a lion.
He surely was just like one. I could hear loud and clear the sound of roaring coming from Alpha Everett. Then howling. He must have shifted.
I push myself harder.
The night sky becomes littered with small leaves and dark trees as I run into a forest. Different from the one near the castle. Far less large trees, but far more grass and flowers. If I wasn't running for my life, I'd stop to admire their beauty. My eyes stayed forward. Ignoring everything now except for the occasional branch as I kept my unsteady but quick pace.
The pounding of feet got closer. But it was only a few sets now.
I just kept running. I'll be there soon, I'll be free.
Suddenly something hit me straight in the stomach. I fell back. The pounding sounds against the earth were gone. There were just quiet steps. Coming my way. My sight became consumed with the dark sky above me.
I tried to get up but was kicked back down again. Harder than the last time. I started to cough uncontrollably from the sheer force. My sight was lost for a moment, but my sense of touch was on overdrive. Not a moment passed before fist after fist came into contact with my face and chest. Slamming down, bringing a shock and harsh ache with each blow. I tried to move away, to keep escaping, but it was no use. My whole body was covered in blood as each punch pushed me further into the grass.
I screamed and cried at my failure. At my pain. Anguish filling me as I was continually pummelled by the red aura and blood covered Alpha Everett. He growled back in return. Even louder than I. Yelling too, all kinds of profanities. I could feel my body begging for it all to end. My arms and legs feeling drained from the blood loss. My skull tingling from the actions of Alpha Everett's rage.
I did anything I could to hold on to what was left of my hope. My eyes fixated now, obsessed, with that night sky. So dark, pitch black almost.
"You'll be punished for this you fucking Kyns!"
He grabs me by my hair, dragging me away. Back to that room, I can only guess.
I keep staring at the night. Looking desperately for something, anything.
But I'm left with nothing.
No moon; no stars at all.
