I could hear muffled speaking outside the door. The voices were so soft though that I couldn't really recognize them. Just that they were male and sounded slightly irritated.
"I thought she couldn't attend?!" I heard one of them proclaim. Don't know where he heard that rumor. Maybe because we set it back? I know Baba wouldn't say something like that. Maybe I should pop in and try to help Re-
"Well you were wrong Alpha."
That was definitely Rei's voice. She sounded pissed. Oddly so. Though she probably has it handled with a tone like that. I turned my direction slightly away from the door and focused on checking that I had everything I would need.
One of the males started speaking again.
"Let me take her to the festival then." The voice ran a shiver up my spine. It was loud enough now that I recognized it. Alpha? Alpha Ev-
"N-"
Thump!
What was that? Rei was cut off suddenly.
I started to prepare my hands for a spell. I was going to break the door back and use it to push them into the wall and help Rei with whatever was going on. Before I could though, the door swung open.
Blood squirted across the walls as Rei fell to her knees, her hands grabbing desperately onto a dagger that was shoved in her throat. Coughing up blood. The dagger was made of the rainbow glass stone and shimmered wildly as she hit the floor, blinding me for just a second. A second was all it would take.
Knowing this I just guessed as I swung my hands toward the open door to let the wave spell crash our perpetrators back. My hands moved with such speed, I almost missed the shimmer as it landed right on them. The shimmer that felt like lighting striking against flesh. I grit my teeth and tried to pull my hands back closer to me but it was too late.
The chains twisted around my wrists, yanking them forward, then behind me. Stopping me from completing the spell. I tried to bite down on it hoping my teeth would be immune to the burn, but they weren't. Every single tooth felt like a needle was stabbing at the gum beside them a thousand times. My head jerked back at the pain.
My vision finally came into view with what was going on in front of me. Alpha Everett was but centimeters from my face. Holding my wrists up now with the chains, glancing back at Rei. Those bright pink irises were like fire as they gazed around at the situation at hand.
Rei was still trying to pull out the blade, but just then looked up at me. Her eyes determined with a stoic expression on her face. I knew then what she was going to do.
I struggled further to try and distract Alpha Everett, pulling with all my might. Moving around erratically. Ignoring the pain. I even growled louder than I ever have right in his ear. He turned to me for just a second, his hand raised up, about to come crashing down.
Behind us, Rei twisted her feet forward, about to lunge up and attack. I moved with more vigor to try and keep him further occupied.
His hand came down.
The knuckles slammed into my cheekbone, breaking it.
Rei jumped.
Alpha Everett swung his foot into her direction.
I tried to stop him, hoping to be able to run in front of the kick, but he elbowed me next. Then he kicked Rei right in the knife in her throat, pushing it past the back of her neck. Ripping through the flesh. Sticking out and pointing at the wall behind her. It all was happening so fast, blood hadn't even spilled from there yet. Just a few droplets from the impact.
I opened my mouth to scream. Boiling hot cloths suddenly covered my mouth and nose. I tried to close my mouth but it was too late. I watched in horror as blood started to pour from the back of Rei's neck. Seeping out slowly like a drenched wall.
The hands holding the cloth against my face squeeze just enough for the boiling liquid to pour onto my tongue and gums. Blistering everything that touched it.
I tried to stop breathing so the steam wouldn't knock me out, but I could only hold out for so long. The cloth was pressed tighter and tighter into my face. I could see my vision getting spotty. Rei stared at me, her eyes wide, hands still holding the hilt of the knife. Alpha Everett looked at me, then her.
He joked, "Good thing our dear general wears that weakening cloth, or we would have had to give up on our little mission here."
Rei finally dropped to the ground, collapsing like a fallen leaf. Laughter filled the room.
It all went dark.
