Their knives are pointed at each other, Everett on top of Cadeth. No one has ever gotten Cadeth on his back before.
That much I knew. Alpha Everett was strong, but not that strong. It must be the barrier. The barrier he's been fighting all this time. Cadeth hid it well as he pressed the blade further, but I was sure he was struggling. Against all odds, all that made sense, he came here, for me.
It was a waste of effort, I thought. Yet as the two became closer and closer to killing each other, I realized Cadeth and I had disagreed.
He was willing to die saving me.
Maybe in this moment, he might. They were so close to slitting each others' throats.
I couldn't let him do it. I'd rather die for us instead. Or maybe, I'm thinking of this all wrong. Maybe I should try to live. Watching his hand barely give against Alpha Everett's, that must be what he wants too. This wasn't a sacrifice. This was everything we had. Our willpower.
A willpower that never ends.
I can't be trapped any longer. It's now or never.
I slam my chin down. Breaking the vial into my chest. Blood mixes with the liquid and I wish with all I have that it aids me in any form on what I was about to do next. My throat, chin, and chest all begin to burn. Not even a blink of time and already I can feel the liquid taking effect. More blood poured out. This was definitely not for healing.
I became overcome with a numbness all over, along with the intense saturation of heat pushing out of my skin. Mellowing yet igniting all in one.
My vision is clearer and all I can focus on is Everett still on top of Cadeth. They're both just starting to cut into each others' flesh. It's happening so slow. Time coming to almost a standstill.
I jerk forward. With minimal effort the chains shatter into fragments. The pieces floating through the air. Going farther and farther out.
Free, I run straight to Alpha Everett.
Both their eyes start to turn to me. Moving like drifting clouds. Alpha Everett begins to lift his leg to kick me in the same manner he had done to Rei. As I reach them the leg becomes faster and almost just hits my thigh, but I tap it to the side with my hand. Throwing him off balance. His blade and body partially away from Cadeth, moving like a marionette toward the ceiling.
Alpha Everett's chest is in full view. I slam right into it. I feel an inner turmoil inside me with the action. Two emotions fighting for dominance. Alpha Everett hurls backward, to the ground, away from Cadeth. The feelings continue to barrage me. One for the desire to fight and stand up; the other begging me to stop and lay low. I get ready to hit him once more, but I hesitate. Unable to move forward with what I was doing. Pulled down like many times before by my own self.
Alpha Everett moves back to me, Cadeth seeming to be gaining himself back on the ground too. Not nearly as fast. In this moment, just deep breathing was all he could muster. Not even pulled together yet. I was right, the barrier had taken its toll.
My sight tilts to looking at the blade Alpha Everett now is aiming to stab me with. Aiming right for my shoulder. He's still moving at a snail's pace, my focus is still here. Dominance in my heart is switched again, fighting giving one final push. The blade reaches me, I catch it.
Alpha Everett looks beyond surprised.
"There are no shadows here, how are you still so fast?! How could you attack me? Twice!" He growls out viciously. Pressing firmly on the blade as my hands push back, keeping us at an impasse.
Suddenly the heat and focus disappear. My mind becomes overcome with its regular emotions. Back to just the begging, laying low, flight feelings. My body now does everything it can to stop me. My hand turning unsteady.
Alpha Everett chuckles with realization, "That's what I thought."
Then he slams the knife down viciously into my shoulder. Pulling it out in the same motion. I fall back and Alpha Everett goes with me, his hand just starting to grasp my throat. Pressing onto it violently. My gaze falls back to Cadeth. He's staring right at me. Body still worn looking. I swallow back my fear, but a small gasp escapes me.
Cadeth shifts.
A wolf again. Jumping onto Alpha Everett. Alpha Everett's grasp flailing as he's forced back and away from me by his face. The large canines sliced deep into his cheekbones and parts of his eyes. Cadeth throws him to our right. Then pounces on him again. Ready to bite into him more.
As Cadeth's jaw lunges down Alpha Everett blocks him with the hand free of the blade. The rainbow glass blade which still stays gripped tightly in Alpha Everett's other hand. Cadeth shifts back to his human form and starts pummeling into Alpha Everett's raised hand. Along with part of his face and chest. Each fist moving fast and with no general direction. The porusae lined blade tucked in his right hand as he continues to punch. I sit up slightly, barely holding myself up with my right hand, my body pounding in pain. I shake it away while my eyes stay locked on them.
Cadeth begs, "This is your last chance Everett! The last chance I'll give you to live!" His hands stop for just a moment.
Alpha Everett screams back, "And I'll take it!" His body flashing a black aura so bright it was neon. The hand holding the rainbow glass blade moves faster than I've ever seen Alpha Everett move before. Like magic was being used to crash his hand toward Cadeth.
He's swinging the knife forward to stab Cadeth in the neck.
My whole body runs cold like ice. I slam both my hands together. Falling back onto the ground. Not caring at all. My fingers glow a deep midnight color. The sensation of being stabbed in the face a million times pulsates through me. I keep my eyes locked on Alpha Everett's hand.
Just as he's about to stab Cadeth the rainbow blade glows the same midnight color and jerks out of his palm. Cutting him in the process.
Alpha Everett immediately turns to me. His finger lifting as his hand and eyes glowed red. Filled with anger and desperation. I feel something sting my ribs.
"You-!"
Cadeth slits the blade across his throat. Twisting the porusae edge outward as he does so. Alpha Everett falls silent. The sting dissipates.
His hand twitches right before the glow leaves it. After a moment Everett's gaze turns dull and his hands fall limp. Dead.
"They'll understand." Cadeth says in a hushed whisper. Then he gets up off of Everett's body.
"Sorry." The word barely escapes Cadeth's lips.
I don't waste another second before getting up and running to him. Cadeth is covered in blood and is sweating profusely. His blade is already back in its sheath. He nods at me, lifting his hand in a waving motion.
I crash into him, hugging him. My hands roaming his back to make sure he's all there. Taking in his warmth. His firm strong frame. Warm arms wrap around me too.
"You did what you had to do." I reassure. Noting the subtle emotions of just before.
"I know." Cadeth sighs.
I sigh too, snuggling my face into the safety of his chest.
Suddenly reality attacks my emotion-driven senses. My mind catching up with my feelings. Pointing out the high level of affection I had been throwing onto Cadeth. I was practically holding onto him for dear life. Pressing all of me into him.
Hotness burns my cheeks. I let go and so does he. Stepping back. My gaze meeting his. The violet purple irises reflecting at me like water in a shallow pool. Tears on his face. I lift up my hand to wipe them away. His eyes widen, tilting downward but still at me. Then he wipes the tears off of my face as well. I hadn't even realized I was crying.
Cadeth's aura starts to shimmer, the soft green tint trickling out until it took over everything behind him.
He speaks.
"You're safe, finally." A small smile gracing his lips. I move my hand to his shoulder, giving it a soft grip. My hand then slides down to his hand, holding it. Our fingers intertwined.
"It's okay." I whisper. He chuckles. A soft firm sound. We're locked in place. Only feeling each other.
"I missed you." I barely manage to breathe out.
"I'm here, Selese." He points at his chest. Giving the hand trapped in his, a gentle squeeze.
I can't help but smile.
All around, I could see only the green aura floating above his skin. The light shade of it just as beautiful as the first time we met. Touching at my heart like the soft grass of Earth.
I finally knew what it meant.
Love.
