I nicknamed her Raven in my head. The 'new' girl. Not so new anymore. But right now she wasn't here. None of the maids were. It was just me and Alpha Everett. He'd sent them away for the coming hour. Apparently, he was kind enough to keep them from viewing the next thing he was about to do. Something so grotesque he could not have them there. He joked they wouldn't be able to stomach it. A message for Cadeth. A message involving me.
But he didn't tell them about any of this. To them, we were just going to 'talk'. Talking he definitely did.
Alpha Everett was holding the rainbow blade in one hand, then tossing it to the other. As if the action would drive him to be able to do it. Whatever it was. I had a general idea though. One I wasn't too keen to admit, but was pretty sure.
I looked down at my bare stomach, right where the small X had been cut. Exactly where my left kidney was. Again I was tempted to talk him out of it. Though I knew in my heart, that's exactly what he wanted. So I kept silent. Hoping it would turn him off of the proposition.
He was pacing back and forth now. Mumbling under his breath. Curse words and other phrases I dare not repeat.
Finally, he spoke to me.
"Don't even try to beg for mercy," he then pointed the blade at his own chest, "I have no heart to beg to." His stare was different than usual. The glint I'd become accustomed to had become overtaken with an opaque glimmer. There was still the anger, most prominent in the tight grip he kept and the tenseness of his shoulders. More so in the slightly red aura which dimmed in and out with each step he took. His hair and clothes were surprisingly more kept than usual. Cleaned to a starchy perfection.
Yet the shaking of his head moving back and forth, and the slight almost limp like action that would sometimes conquer his leg further nagged me and the growing concern that Alpha Everett was off.
My eyes focused on him, ignoring some of the more antagonizing behaviors he attempted. Keeping my own expression null, but my fingers too were just as stiff as his. Noticing my lack of reaction Alpha Everett snarled. Now walking toward me, moving his arms more wildly. Swinging the blade around. He was most definitely going to hit me. I stood my ground.
But then I saw it. The tears.
Just barely forming off the ridge of his eyelids. Pooling into large droplets before making their quick escape. His face had turned pale.
I could only gauge that maybe, just maybe, his conscious was fighting with his heart. I knew- I recognized that feeling. It was the same one I had when I tried to kill myself.
I can't keep quiet anymore.
Right as his blade was about to slash against my face, I spoke.
"You have a heart... Alpha Everett. It's just bleeding so much you can't tell what you're feeling. All you know is pain." He looked at me surprised. Pulling the knife away.
Through gritted teeth, he growled, "What makes you think that bullshit?" The tears were still falling. His grip softening. My eyes left his and turned to the hand holding the knife. Watching it patiently as slowly the blade started to tilt away. Ready to fall.
I growled back, "The look on your face, I've met many people with that look."
Like me.
His eyes widened. The knife almost fell but his grip tightened again as he brought it to his hip. A soft frown etched on his lips. Before either of us could say any more, he was gone.
All alone, I cried now too.
