Years Earlier, Undisclosed Time
"I killed a princess of another realm. They want my head Crown Prince. How can you not? Was she not your friend as well as ally?" Everett spoke fast with an icy tongue. A moment of desperation overtaking him after being brought to the crown prince, Cadeth Haerstone. The last person he wanted to see, but the only person he could trust at a time like this. The only one to be fair.
Young, but in all mannerisms, he was treated and acted as someone far beyond his years. Incredibly strong and vicious. Standing tall with eyes that could kill. No one dared to call him anything less than by his formal title. A Prince that Everett normally only slightly feared, booming with power never before reached by royalty, and terror too. Still, he the crown prince, also was one who spared lives in a way never done previously. Showed the kind of mercy Everett could never show. The kind that made even an overpowered and terrifying werewolf like the crown prince, flawed in the eyes of Alpha Everett.
Flawed in a way, that may now save his life.
Crown Prince Haerstone responded, calm and logical,"The princess was; that is why I can't do it. She would have never let you kill her, she was far too str-"
"It was suicide." Everett turned to the new speaker. Her words soft and filled with pain. She kept her hair tied up stiff and her eyes covered in make up to conceal dark circles from a lack of sleep. Everett couldn't believe it. She standing before them.
He questioned, trying to remain calm, "Alpha Jae-in! What are you doing here?" The fear could be seen in his eyes though.
"I permitted it." The crown prince answered.
How dare he?! Why bring Jae-in into this! She couldn't know, that he, Everett, may very well die for her. This was a matter Everett only wished to get help through the crown prince. And if the crown prince couldn't do anything alone, then Everett would proudly choose death instead! Not risk anyone else. Especially not Jae-in.
"Your highness?!" He begged.
Jae-in answered instead.
"We have a plan to save you, Everett. I love you, and will not let you die!" There were tears slowly leaking from her eyes. It was like a knife to Everett's chest. A tinge of regret crossed his mind on what he had done. Killing another being, an innocent being. Who's only crime was living too far away, and having no choice but to take him with her. Stuck to her, until death did them part.
Death was what he brought. Who was he to fight the consequence? Yet how could he not predict that such a possible consequence may very well lead to more pain for his darling Jae-in than anything else? How come he didn't consider, that by doing something so wrong, the soft but willful Jae-in wouldn't try to make it right? For his sake. He wasn't worthy.
Everett's gaze switched back to the crown prince. Staring into those peircing violet irises. Reflecting deep with a mix of emotions Everett couldn't decipher. Everett's own fiery eyes only spoke one thing. One thing alone.
Stop Jae-in!
But he wouldn't.
"We can't let the princess' sacrifice be in vain." Still as calm as ever. The crown prince's words filled with an unearned level of justice. Daring to side with Jae-in. Work with her. Under the ignorance that it was better together that they save him.
As if there odds could increase. All he needed was the crown prince, nothing more! Everett's eyes dashed back to Jae-in. She stared at him as only a lover does. Why couldn't she see?! It's too risky!
"This is madness-" Everett started to yell.
"This is what she wanted. I never would have agreed otherwise." The crown prince interrupted. By 'she', does he mean the princess, or Jae-in? Probably both.
This can't be.
Everett begged, "But-"
"You will do as I order." Crown Prince Haerstone commanded. Jae-in coughed slight. Just loud enough though to bring Everett to his senses. To calm him down.
He responded, defeated, "... yes, your highness."
Jae-in finally spoke once more, "It'll be okay, my plan is really good, I swear Ev!" She was smiling flirtatiously at Everett. His favorite kind of smile from her. Tears still falling down her cheeks. She was so beautiful. So confident. His.
Everett reminded himself that the crown prince would be there. He would protect Jae-in, even if the plan failed. The crown prince would never let Jae-in be in danger, she was one of his best Alpha's, while he... he was a problem from the very beginning. So of course the to-be King, if given a choice, would choose to save Jae-in over Everett. No matter any foolish things Jae-in may try and do.
She was always so impulsive, but the crown prince would control her. Like the strong man he is.
Everett breathed out a sigh of relief. Finally responding.
"Okay." A small smile showing on Everett's lips, directed for Jae-in.
If he'd known this would've been the last time he'd see her, he would have caged her instead.
Like the crown prince should have done.
But he didn't.

Things never go how we truly wish. Sometimes no matter how hard we try, fate mocks us with an opposite outcome. Showing our true selves while simultaneously taking away all that really matters to us. Because sometimes, fate is really masked as karma.
Now, karma meets the King.
I promise.
