Thinking versus Believing

It is a natural inclination for people to accept the views of people in authority. From     young age, we are conditioned to respond to authority. We learn that our parents know better than we do and that we should do what they say. When we enter school, we learn     to listen to our teachers. Our society functions in large part because we rely on people        in authority to be knowledgeable. It is a mistake to confuse intelligence with knowledge. Intelligence relates to the way one processes information, not necessarily what he knows or believes. - - - Armin Navabi

"Science works. It is not perfect. It can be misused. It is only a tool. But it is by
far the best tool we have, self-correcting, ongoing, applicable to everything. It has
two rules. First: there are no sacred truths; all assumptions must be critically examined; arguments from authority are worthless. Second: whatever is inconsistent with the facts must be discarded or revised. We must understand the Cosmos as it is and not confuse    how it is with how we wish it to be. The obvious is sometimes false; the unexpected is sometimes true." - - - Carl Sagan

Education must be subversive if it is to be meaningful. By this I mean that it must challenge all the things we take for granted, examine all accepted assumptions, tamper with every sacred cow, and instill a desire to question   and doubt. - - - Bertrand Russell
For my part, I do not care for religion. It has only to do with frightened beliefs under deadly paralysis. I'd rather love and respect science. It has more to do with enlightened ways of thinking under lively analysis.  - - - Poch Suzara
