The house was super lonely when I walked inside. My dad and Rachel were already asleep and when I walked into my room, I saw Adam lying in my bed. I felt a sudden pang in my heart when I realized he must have been waiting for me to come home. Rachel still didn't realize I took her car keys because she would've been awake and would have been screaming at me. Jai took her car since he needed to get back home. I was sure that by tomorrow morning she would notice her valuable car was missing. I put on my sweatpants and a tank top and cuddled next to Adam. He smiled slightly and I felt myself smiling too. But that smile quickly vanished once the memories of today came back. They way my mom was still drunk and didn't give a damn about how I was doing. She didn't even bother to ask where I was living. And then how I almost got raped by that guy until Jai came.

Jai.

I found my heart beating and my body sweating just by remembering the way he punched that guy and got super pissed at him for touching me. Jai was protective, I knew that, but what I didn't know was why he was protective. Why did he feel the need to defend me or even help me after I pushed him away and treated him as if he was nothing? I closed my eyes and moved a little closer to Adam. I then drifted off to a deep sleep full of terrifying nightmares.

The next morning I woke up and saw that Adam was no longer next to me. I sighed and realized that Rachel probably took him away from my room. I got up and walked up to my window. I felt relieved once I saw that her car was back in its regular parking spot. I wasn't sure how he got her car keys back inside the house, but it was Jai and he could do anything so I wasn't surprised.

I didn't bother changing my clothes for school, but I put on a warm sweater over my tanktop. I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs. My dad was drinking coffee and Rachel was getting Adam ready for school. I wanted to grab something small to eat, but I didn't.

This wasn't my house.

"Ava." My dad's voice stopped me from walking. I turned to look at him, waiting for him to continue. "I understand if you don't want to eat anything, but it's not healthy for you to starve yourself. So if you feel hungry, feel free to eat whatever you want to." He smiled.

No. He wasn't supposed to care for me. I nodded and left the house before he could say anything else. Or worse, before I could say anything. I walked all the way to the school, and once I entered I saw Beverly standing by my locker.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Waiting for you!" She grinned.

"Get lost."

She rolled her eyes. "You don't want me to get lost."

"I do." I pushed her to the side and placed my books in my locker. She suddenly became really tense and she stopped moving. I looked at her with confusion and then saw her staring at someone behind me. I slowly turned around and saw Summer standing with a fake smile on her face.

"Hey plastic, if you could do me the favor of moving so that I could get to my class, I'd really appreciate it." I smirked at her.

"Stay away from Jai." She threatened. "He's been through a lot on his life and he doesn't need some whore like you to mess his life up even more."

Anger formed inside of me. "You're calling me a whore? Wow if I'm a whore, you must be a fucking prostitute. I don't have time for your shit. I don't give a damn if Jai talks to me or if he doesn't. In fact, I'd prefer if he didn't talk to me. Now move your barbie face away from me, or I'll punch you." This seemed to scare her because she quickly walked away, but still turned around to give me an evil glare.
