I was lying in my bed unable to sleep. I kept turning around and kept fixing my pillow but I still couldn't sleep. In the end, I got so sick I threw my pillow at the wall and just stared at the ceiling. My thoughts were dark right now. There was absolutely no color in my thoughts and everything I was currently thinking about was beyond negative. That's the problem with people like me. Sometimes the monsters deep inside our heads come out around the night time and don't allow us to sleep.

I couldn't stop thinking. No matter how hard I tried, my brain continuously brought back all the bad thoughts. I didn't even have any sleeping pills that I could swallow.

My phone vibrated on the side table and I quickly grabbed it. I groaned when I realized it was Jai calling. Why was he calling at this time?

"What do you want?" I asked after picking up the phone.

"Aren't dogs really cute? I actually really love dogs! Best animal ever. Have you ever had a dog?"

I looked at the clock on the wall. "You called me at two in the morning to discuss dogs?!" I hissed through the phone. Then another thought came into my mind. "Oh my God, you're drunk!"

"I'm actually not drunk at all. I just didn't feel sleepy so I decided to call you and talk to you about dogs. I have a dog, you know."

I slapped my hand on my forehead. He was completely insane. "I don't care if you have a dog! Why would I care?! Let me sleep, okay?"

"YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT MY DOG?! MY HEART IS BROKEN." He screamed.

Why was he screaming? Oh my God, why was he screaming?! "Why the hell are you screaming?! You're gonna wake your entire house up and then everyone will know we're talking on the phone."

He laughed. "No one's gonna care if I'm talking to you. We don't need to hide our love for each other anymore! We can confess our love for each other and then get married and then live happily ever after!"

I was seriously beginning to think that he actually was high. He was screaming at the top of his lungs and he was talking about the kind of stuff that little girls believe in. Like fairytales and happily ever afters. That stuff didn't exist. "Okay, this is what you should do. Go in the kitchen, quietly, and pour yourself a glass of milk and then go to sleep. It'll help you calm down too."

"Yeah yeah, I'll do that. But you need to do something for me too."

I sighed. "And what exactly do you need me to do? Buy you a dog?" I said sarcastically.

"Wait, can you actually do that?"

I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing. "No, I can't. Now tell me what you want so that I can hang up."

"Come over."

I almost dropped my phone. He had to be joking. He wanted me to come over at freaking two in the morning? Jai just took crazy to a whole new level. "That's such a funny joke! Ha ha ha! Now I'm going to sleep."

"Ava, I'm serious. Please come over."

"It's two in the morning!" I argued.

"It's not like you're gonna sleep. And I haven't seen you in days! Stop making me suffer woman." He said.

It always surprised me how he knew me so well. I actually knew for a fact that I wasn't gonna sleep but I also knew that sneaking out of the house at this time would only end up getting me into huge trouble. And besides, what would I do at his house? Discuss the different kinds of dogs? "Actually, I am gonna sleep. So goodnight."

"This is what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna unlock my front door and wait until three-thirty for you to come. If you don't come by then, I'll go to sleep."
