There was no way to describe exactly how I was feeling. His lips were soft against mine and we fell into perfect sync. I felt electricity spread throughout my entire body. I wanted him closer to me. I know what I was doing was absolutely unfair to him because I would only end up pushing him away again, but I did not want this moment to stop. He pushed me against the wall and continued to kiss me. His kiss was demanding and so, so addicting. This is probably how it felt when people took drugs. They knew it was dangerous but they were addicted. They couldn't stop. Jai was my drug. And I couldn't stop. His lips trailed down my neck and I bit back a moan. After he stopped kissing me, he softly pecked my lips one more time. He had a huge smile on his face and his lips were swollen.
"Am I interrupting something?" Rachel smirked.
Jai quickly put me down. My face felt warm and I was extremely humiliated. What the hell just happened? "I thought you weren't home." I said.
She smiled at me, which was really rare. "I just got home." She looked at me. "Ava I need to talk to you about something serious. I'll be in the kitchen and I expect you to be there in a couple of minutes." She turned to Jai. "It's great having you here but you're going to need to leave."
He shook his head. "I'm not leaving her all by herself."
She sighed. "She's not in trouble. There are just some things that her dad and I need to talk to her about. I'll meet you in the kitchen." She grabbed her bag and walked away.
Jai put his hand on my cheek and it surprised me that I didn't flinch. "Should I stay?"
Did I want him to stay? After what just happened a few minutes ago, I wanted him to leave. It wasn't because I was beginning to regret kissing him, because I didn't. It was just that I was beginning to feel all these weird feelings that only he made me feel and I was afraid those feelings would ruin me. But even then, I said, "Yes."
He grabbed my hand and led me to the kitchen. Adam was eating a sandwich until Rachel told him to take it upstairs. He smiled at me and ran out of the kitchen. My dad was drinking his coffee while Rachel was putting the grocery away. After she was done, she sat down on the chair.
"He stays." I pointed at Jai.
She sighed. "If you insist. Take a seat."
My dad and Rachel shared a knowing glance and looked back at me. My dad looked really stressed and it was visible on his face. He looked tired, as if he didn't sleep for days. He rubbed his eyes. "Ava, this isn't good news," He said. I felt Jai squeeze my hand lightly.
I didn't even realize that my hands were shaking. "What happened?" I asked him.
He put his cup of coffee down. "Your mother is in jail."
I didn't feel anything. I wasn't shocked or upset or scared. I knew this was going to happen eventually. My mom enjoyed getting herself in trouble. It was honestly about time she ended up in jail.
"She called us today. She wanted to speak to you. I couldn't hand you the phone because you weren't with me at the time. I did, however, tell her that you would visit her if you could." She grabbed my other hand. "I think you should see her. Even if it's for one last time. Every mother, good or bad, deserves that."
"If you need us to take you, we can." My dad smiled sadly.
I began to wonder how my dad must be feeling about all of this. No matter how happy he is now with Rachel and Adam, he still loved my mom at one point. How did he feel knowing that the woman that he loved more than anything was now in jail?
"I'll take her." Jai said, shocking us all. I completely forgot that he was sitting next to me.
I let go of his hand and got up. "Then we should go now before it gets too dark outside."
