MERLIN STARTED SERving out the stew he'd made. The Knights and Arthur sat around a the fire laughing at Gwaine's stories and Leon's jokes. Merlin sighed. He wished he was as happy and carefree as them...
And that's when he decided it. He couldn't wait any longer. It was time. When only Arthur sat around the fire to keep watch Merlin spoke up. "You're a great king Arthur." He said.
Arthur looked taken aback by Merlin's words. "Really? You haven't said so much before." He mused. Merlin's eyes looked sorrowful and tired. If it weren't for the darkness Arthur would have noticed.
"Your a good friend as well. I mean it." Merlin said again.
Arthur sighed, "Is this one of your little wiser moments Merlin?"
Merlin just gave him a fond smile. "You and Camelot have made such an impact on my life Arthur. And I'm proud to call it my home. You have made it fair and just. I hope that you continue to do so."
"Of course I will. Merlin what the hell is all this nonsense your talking about?" Arthur gave him a weird look.
"I'm going to get more fire wood. Bye." Merlin said, walking into the forest.
Arthur would usually just label that as normal, if it weren't for the way Merlin had said bye. He had said it like it would be his last time to. Then hit him. Merlin was saying his last goodbye. Oh, no! Arthur ran through the forest searching for the manservant who was about to do something very, very, stupid.

Merlin looked down from the tree and sighed. Was he making a mistake? No. He shook his head. This was the right thing to do. He would finally be rid of his burden. And better yet, he wouldn't be such a burden to others. Just as he put one foot over the edge of the branch, he heard a twig snap. "Merlin! Merlin!" Arthur called from below.
He was in the way of Merlin's landing spot. Suddenly Arthur looked up. "Merlin?" He called.
He took a deep breath before speaking. "Arthur, move." He said firmly.
Clear panic showed in Arthur's eyes when he realized what would happen if he moved. So he didn't. "No! Merlin come down here right now! Don't jump! We can find you some help! Heck! I'll even give you the week off! Please just come down!" Desperation in his voice.
"I-I can't. It's better if I just leave Arthur! I can't do this anymore! It's too hard! I miss her, Arthur! I miss Freya! I miss Will! And Lance! I-I miss my father!" He screamed from the tree.
Arthur didn't know who Freya or Merlin's father were, but he tried to comfort him anyway. "Merlin..." He said, slowly. "I know you miss them. And I know they're gone. But I'm still here for you. And will always be! Come down and we can talk! Please Merlin..."
Merlin snifled, pulling his foot back onto the branch. He nodded, "Ok. Ok..." he said.
A while later Merlin and Arthur were again sitting by the fire in silence. "So...um...do you want to talk about it?" Arthur asked, awkwardly.
Merlin sighed, something he'd made a habit of these days. "What's there to talk about?" He said, dryly.
