Merlin walked around in the lower town, smelling the fresh baked bread and looking at the jewels and such. He knew Arthur would be mad if he found him slacking off from his work, but he just pushed that thought away. Merlin instead decided to think about his long lost child.
Was it a boy or a girl? Freya and him had definitely had a child together as it seemed...But when Freya had died she took the baby with her. And the Gods had given it back to Albion so it could finish its destiny. But they hadn't given it back to Merlin.
And even though he hadn't met the child, Merlin missed them dearly. He had always wondered what it would be like to be a father. But even if the child somehow found its father, how would everyone react? Merlin hadn't told anyone about Freya let alone the child.
"MERLIN?!" Oh, great.
Arthur came storming around the corner and yelled right in Merlin's face. "WHERE ON EARTH HAVE YOU BEEN?! I HAVE A MEETING IN FIFTEEN MINUTES!" Arthur dragged Merlin by the collar of his purple t-shirt, leading him to the throne room.

"...Thank you M'Lord." The peasant women bowed. Merlin blinked his eyes vigorously, trying his best to stay awake. Last time he'd fallen asleep during a meeting Arthur had put him in the stocks for a whole month!
As the next few people came in and asked for help or complained about something ridiculous, Merlin didn't pay attention. That was until a strong magical force entered the room. Merlin's head snapped up to see a young boy. Black raven hair and blue eyes just like his own. But his facial features resembled that of Freya's.
Merlin didn't need to guess because he already knew. This was his son. The boy didn't seem to notice Merlin yet and instead made eye contact with the king. (Just pretend that mordred hasn't appeared in the tv show yet.)
"Sire, please help me. I am alone and searching for my father, it was last heard that he worked here in the walls of Camelot. Amongst the royal court." The boy said.
Merlin couldn't stop staring at him. He had a son. And a druid son at that. Merlin knew that the people of Camelot were quite oblivious but he could clearly see the slightly covered mark of the druids on the boy's wrist. Was that were the boy grew up? Could he have been living so close all this time? He must have been only eight summers old by now.
"What is your name, boy?" Arthur asked him.
"Mordred, sire." He replied, only now noticing Merlin. He gasped slightly and looked down at his feet in thought.
Arthur looked between the pair and gave an almost suspicious look before saying, "Can you give us further detail on your search, Mordred? Who and where your mother is? And do you know your father's name?"
Mordred's face became suddenly conflicted. "I grew up in this camp..." He started, "I was just a toddler when a lady named Kara found me. She took me to her camp and raised me as her own. Only under a year ago she told me this. She also told me that she found me at the lake Avalon with a lady who was made out of water."
The people of the court looked startled by this news but some looked disbelieving. "She told Kara that she was my mother but she couldn't take care of me. She told her that my name was Mordred and that my father lived in Camelot." Mordred finished.
Arthur raised his brow at his story and said, "What is your father's name Mordred?"
"Em-" Merlin. A voice appeared in the boy's head. Merlin smiled as the boy understood and corrected himself. "-Merlin." Arthur turned to face his manservant in disbelief. But when Merlin smiled his goofy, joyful smile, Arthur knew that the boy was telling the truth.
"Court dismissed. Everyone leave!" He ordered. Once everyone had left there was a small silence before Mordred and Merlin slowly walked towards each other. As they grew closer their smiles grew as well.
Merlin hugged the boy and sighed in content. "Finally."
"UM. EXCUSE ME?! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?! SINCE WHEN DO YOU HAVE A SON??!" Arthur cut their family reunion short.
Merlin scratches the back of his head and said, "Well, Arthur...about eight years...I mean I was gonna tell you but..."
"But what?!"
Merlin was suddenly angry, "I couldn't because you wouldn't believe me!"
Arthur didn't know what to say. Merlin had a son. MERLIN. MERLIN HAD A SON.
