Stalking souls

I flopped down on the couch and Mark rested his head on my knees. I began to pet his head gently.

"Mark, what do you think I should do? I would say yes but Alex looked like he was jealous. It's times like these that I still cling to hope. Maybe I'll go on one date and see what Alex does."

I was admiring Mark's sky blue eyes when I heard the door open and the rustling of bags. My mom came in with groceries and called out to me "Gienelle we are having Vincent over for dinner. So be ready at 6."

I stared at her, my eyes wide with surprise. I practically shouted "My big brother ,Vinney is coming over!?"

My mom laughed and replied "That's right. He just came back from his business trip. Although im curious what kind of business it was. "

Mark stood up on his hind legs then began to jump around and bark. We laughed and then I said "I guess I'm not the only one who missed Vinney. You're happy to get to see him again right Mark?"

Vinney wasn't my actual brother, but he felt like he was. It was the same whith Alex before I started liking him. Vinney was four years older than me. After he turned 19 last month, he went on a business trip. He would always buy me something for every A I got on my report card and the price didn't matter. When he comes I'm going to show him my straight A report card. I should call Alex and tell him. As I reached for my phone I hesitated. I wasn't sure if he was still mad at me and he wasn't on good terms with Vinney as he used to be. Every time I ask what happened they don't answer and change the topic.

I check the clock and its still 2:56. Deciding that I couldn't just sit here, I go upstairs to my room and grab my sneakers. I slide down the rail and hop off as I near the end. I bow to the imaginary audience and then skip into the kitchen. My mom was washing the dishes when I came in.

"Mom I'm going out for a while, but i'll be back in time for dinner."

"I know you will considering how excited you were. Just be careful."

"Don't worry I will."

I stood in front of my house a few seconds before beginning to walk towards the nearby park. Not many people went there because it didn't have any playsets, but It was a nice place to take walk. As I walked I felt a chill go down my spine. I turned around, but I didn't see anything. I grew nervous and began to walk faster. I rounded the corner and bumbed into a hooded figure. I almost fell back but he caught me before I did. I was in yet another guy's arms. I heard him sigh then he looked up at me. He had light red eyes, but did red eyes exist? Maybe he was wearing contacts. He smiled

and said "You 'ought to be more careful. You might get hurt."

"Oh... um.... yeah thanks"

"Oh, come on now. Don't be shy."

"Er ok.......... can you please let me go now?"

He blushed slightly after realizing that he was still holding onto me. He laughed awkwardly before letting me go. He took off his hood, revealing his brown surfer hair. I never noticed how handsome he was until I saw him take off his hood. He smoothed out his hair with his hand and noticed me staring. He closed his eyes and smiled. He then said "You know..... I heard that it's a bad omen to stare your death in the face."

I look at him confused and reply "What do you mean?"

"Can I show you what I mean?"

I wasn't sure whether or not I should make a run for it or just take it as a random conversation and let him show me something. I heard a voice echoing in my head saying Go with him. It kept repeating the words in my mind. To get the voice to shut up, I said "I'll go with you so you can show me."

He smiled and then grabbed my hand. We began walking towards the park and he said "It'll be fun..."

I couldn't hear the last part of what he said, but I didn't bother asking him to repeat it. We walked past the park and towards an alley. I wasn't sure where he was taking me, but my curiosity told me to just keep following him. We walked down the alley until we reached a dead end. I didn't realize that he was still holding my hand until he let go. He walked up to the wall and started sliding his fingers across its surface, as if he were looking for something. After a few moments I was going to ask what he was doing, but then I heard a click. A door appeared on the wall and he opened it then turned to me to say "Ladies first."

I walked through the door and was horrified to see so many weapons. It was a large empty room besides a few tables on the sides full of weapons. There were crossbows, swords, guns, and daggers displayed neatly either on the wall or on one of the tables. Was he a weapons expert or maybe some criminal? I was dumb enough to let him lead me here. He slammed the door shut and walked over to me.

"You know Gienelle... I've been watching you for two days.Your soul's light attracted me to you. Every soul has some type of light, but yours is something special"

I backed away but he just came closer. I asked "What do you mean by soul and lights?"

He laughed and replied "Do you believe there is a heaven and hell? What about Angels and Demons?"

Angels, Demons, Heaven and Hell? Is he Insane? Considering the room I'm in, if I'm not careful, I could die today. I backed away again, but he just kept coming closer. Growing tired of waiting for my answer he continued talking.

"I am what you mortals call a reaper. I guide souls from the dead to Heaven or Hell. I have no interest in those average souls. I keep my eye out for the brightest souls. Everyone has a light that shines within their soul. Depending on the person's emotions and how important their role is, their soul's light brightens or dims. Your soul seems to shine brightest around here. You must be very important. I collect important souls or ones that are of interest to me. You seem to be in both categories. I only came to give death a push to add your soul to my collection."

He was definitely insane, but either way, he wants to kill me. In a panic I run across the room, but there are no doors or even windows. I heard his laugh echo in the room and I grew tense. I turn around to face him and he was walking towards me. he stretched out his right hand to his side with his eye locked on me. In his outstretched hand a faint light was shining. As if by magic in his hand appeared what looked like a sife. Its handle was black and the blade curved and had double tips. I blinked a couple times to make sure that I wasn't imagining things. It was really there. He smirked at me and raised his sife. I closed my eyes and began to think about everyone. Alex Is angry with me, Cam is expecting an answer, who will keep Savi and Gabe from killing eachother, and Vincent is coming to see me after a month. I cant leave everything unsolved! I heard a crash and a sweet scent filled the air. My mind fogged and I grew dizzy. I tried to open my eyes but failed. I could feel my consciousness sliping away. I felt warm liquid go down my chest. I fell to my knees and heard voices shouting. I couldn't tell who the person was but I knew he came to rescue me.

"I lead all of you away but you were smart enough to come back huh?"

"Clearly you weren't careful enough. If I were to hide her I would've done it better. Its only a matter of time before someone else comes to find her. Like everyone else, I'm curious about why she is so important."

"No need for you to know! Just know I'll protect her with my life and never let her get hurt! Physically or mentally!"

"Ha! Great job you did there! Before attacking me I managed to cut her."

"What good will she do you reapers dead!?"

"Them? I honestly don't know, but I just want her soul for my collection."

"............How about we make a deal."

"Lets hear what you got."

"Attend Gienelle's high school and protect her. I'll explain why later and you'll get her soul if something happens. Right now I'll wait till she feels better."

"All right then I'll wait. If I don't like it I'll take her soul right then and there."

I couldn't hang on anymore to listen to anything else they would say. My mind went black then I felt my body fall and go numb.
